St. Croix River Beach Party

  • Jul 4, 2013 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Meet at Kurt’s cabin at 11 am or later for a beach party/picnic and sailing event.  Kurt will be taking out members on Puffin. Other members may be posting sails to the party. Other groups may be joining in the event.

There should be 3-5 different firework displays visible from the beach in the evening. A bonfire is expected.

If there are any other small boat owners interested in bringing their boats, please contact Kurt ([masked]) to inquire and make launch arrangements for earlier in the day. There is a launch fee $7.50. This launch has some low overhanging branches.

http://www.townoftroy.org/ParkPages/coveramp.html

The Windmill marina in Afton is also very close for boat launching, but costs a little more.

Bring tie ups (dock available) or anchors if you don’t want to beach your boat.  Water shoes recommended if you have tender feet as the shore is a bit rocky.

Be sure you have filed out an injury waiver and paid your dues if you want to go out on a boat. See the More/Files tab for waiver info.

People can bring:

- any outdoor games, bocce ball, etc., There will be an absolutely awesome beach available.

- Swim suits (not optional this year) Sun Tan Lotion, towels, beach chairs, inner tubes.

- food and drink (see alcohol note below) . (There will be a grille available)

- Beach chairs and/or blanket to sit on.

Alcohol: You are welcome to bring wine and beer for personal consumption. Please no harder alcohol. Given the water and the driving, people need to stay sober. Also, no glass bottles on the beach, unless they are in a paper or plastic bag.

I will send detailed directions to those on the RSVP list.

Join or login to comment.

Fabulous, memorable day that flew by too fast. Was wonderful to meet so many new members to the group and many old friends too. Thank you Kurt for offering up your cabin, boat, patio and beachfront, can't wait to do it again. We'll be there. So many generous people in this group!

Thanks everyone for coming and making this a great party. Parties are as much fun as the people who come to them, and I think this was a great one.
I have found a couple items this morning that people left behind.
    A) A pair for sun glasses.
    B) A shawl/scarf/??? Purple with Dolphins print.
    C) A younger persons Life Vest. Yellow and Blue and Red. Sez "Team Rider" on the front.
Let me know if these belong to you, and we can arrange to hand them off.
    'till next time,
    Kurt A.

P.S. Please everyone thank the beach elves who woke up very, very early indeed (before noon even) and picked up the beach. you know who you are..

My kids have surprised me with Twins tickets (1pm game). if someone else wants to take my place, please let them. I'm sorry for such a last minute notice - I just found out. KIDS.... If space is not taken, I may try to come later, if that's ok Looks like a PERFECT day. I'm sorry to miss this as it sounds sooo much fun. Perhaps there will be another one of these this summer???

Do we need to bring plates, plastic-ware and napkins?

    July 4, 2013

  • Beth P.

This looks so nice-a good tone to it.
Would anyone care to rideshare for 1 passenger @ this point?
My van is "docked" for now due to damage from the recent heavy storming. She's not going anywhere right now. Of course, I will be flexible re timing and make a gas contribution.

I'd be coming from St. Louis Park, nearest major intersection is Cedar Lake Road S/ Hiway 100S intersecting with Park Place Boulevard which also closely accesses Hiway 394 S. By Lifetime Fitness & a Caribou. (Of course!) Possibly I could connect with someone along bus lines as well, if more convenient.Cheers, B.

    • Beth P.

oops on 2 counts-- ..I can't promise anything for him. I will tell him what my idea was & perhaps he can stop by the Caribou after he picks me up. It's up to him.

Hi Beth, Just in case my number is[masked]-2078. Thanks!!

      July 4, 2013

  • Beth P.

Polly & Maria. Ok, I passed the info back to Joe by cell.
He hadn't seen recent posts yet. He says he will stop by the same Caribou I brought up after he picks me up, 10:30 a.m.ish. You can wait @ the Caribou. He's got room for me & you 2 more, now he's at capacity.

Maria, if you need any thing special/otherwise, he says contact him.
    You can email thru meetup.com.
    B. :)

    June 19, 2013

Fantastic. You are welcome to stay the nite (onshore or off) or whatever works for you. Be sure to read the note about high water levels I wrote above.

      June 28, 2013

  • Caroline

Matthew and I will bring our boat and pick up passengers from the beach that want to sail. Kurt, we'll likely be anchoring for the night so we can stay late for the fireworks. Looking forward to a fun time.

    June 20, 2013

    • K

Cool. You are welcome to the use of the cabin and grill all night and the next morning. Make sure to read the note about water levels above that I just added.

      June 28, 2013

  • K

Beach Update. The water levels on the St. Croix are high and expected to remain high through the 4'th. The St. Croix is a no-wake zone and prob. will be on the 4'th. The Beach is very clean and mostly underwater :-). If coming by boat, be very careful approaching the shore. Many docks are underwater with pipes sticking up almost to the surface, and have only a buoy or flotation marker of some sort marking their position.
If you come straight in to my beach, or the beach one lot to downstream (to the right looking at the shore) you will be ok. There are docks upstream from me that you want to avoid.
There may or may not be a dock above water at my neighbors (upstream one lot), so we may be shuttling people to and from the boats via canoe.

    June 28, 2013

  • Andrea O

Sounds great! I'll bring a pesto pasta salad and chicken sausages to share. Looking forward to being on the water.
