Volunteer Event - Cook for and Dine with Families at Local Homeless Shelter

The Minnesota Atheists will have another powerful and unique volunteer opportunity at the Family Place homeless shelter in downtown St. Paul. Although it is right next to the First Baptist Church, and that church provides help to the shelter, the Family Place is a completely secular 501 (c)(3).

We will be preparing dinner for as many as 40 people (we'll know the exact number the day before we will serve) at the Family Place. We will then dine with the families and then clean up afterward. We will have full access to their kitchen to make the preparations. The food we serve is up to us. This month Phil will serve as our kitchen leader and come up with our meal plan.*Look in the comments section for ingredient suggestions to bring with you!*

We should plan on arriving shortly after 3 PM for orientation, set up, and meal preparation. The orientation lasts approximately 30 min. which would give us at least 45 minutes to prepare the meal since dinner is served at 4:30 PM.

For parking:

The Family Place rents parking space from First Baptist Church so you can park for free in their lot (do not Park on the street since it is a ticket and tow area); the entrance to the parking lot is a few feet East of the corner of 9th and Wacouta. Drive to the far end of the lot, park, and walk across the street which will place you on the corner of 10th and Wacouta a few feet from of our entrance at[masked]th St. E. You will need to be buzzed into the building and the call button is located at the right side of the double doors which are not marked. Please use our 10th St. entrance and not the church entrance on Wacouta. Most GPS systems cannot find our location and they tend to get people using them VERY lost, but MapQuest seems to work okay.

It was great meeting part of this group at the Bulldog last night and sharing stories. I hope that I can participate in the meal preparation next month. Thank you Phil and Bernadette for organizing!

Thanks everyone who has signed up to bring items. If you still have not picked an item the only thing left is Garlic bread sticks soft to serve 50 people

Don't feel like you have to bring all the garlic bread if that would be difficult for you but if you could bring some that would be very helpful. Thanks and we are looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.

Hi Mahad, I just want to clarify what you are bringing in reference to the garlic. Do you mean the garlic croutons, basil and garlic pasta sauce or the garlic bread?

The RSVP list is full so you should plan on coming in your own. There is a drop down menu under the RSVP tab where you can list how many guests will be coming with you. Maybe you could sign up with your daughter and her friend next month.
