Announcing a new Meetup for Minnesota Atheists Meetup Group!

What: Hector Avalos - How to Take on Intelligent Design and Win - Oct 19 at 1 PM

When: October 19,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: Minnesota Atheists is proud to welcome back Dr. Hector Avalos to speak about taking on Intelligent Design and winning. Dr. Avalos is a former Pentecostal preacher and currently teaches at Iowa State University. Dr. Avalos has successfully taken on Intelligent Design Creationism, and is most famous for a statement he co-authored in 2005 against Intelligent Design which was signed by 130 faculty members at Iowa State, and became a model for statements at the University of Iowa, and the University of Northern Iowa.

Dr. Guillermo Gonzalez was denied tenure in 2007 at Iowa State University. While Dr. Gonzalez was not targeted specifically for his pro-ID views, much was made about his denial as an attack on Intelligent Design by Darwinists, specifically by the Discovery Institute. Both professors were featured in the movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed.

Dr. Avalos is a fantastic speaker, and we are fortunate to have him make the trek up here. He's an established author, writing such books as Fighting Words: The Origins of Religious Violence, and The End of Biblical Studies. You can check out our website at for book reviews, and video of his previous visit when he discussed The End of Biblical Studies.

We will have our monthly business meeting from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, followed by Dr. Avalos's">Avalos's Presentation. Around 4:00 PM, we'll head to the Panda Garden Chinese Buffet.

This is a great event if you've ever wanted to meet an interesting author. To me, he's right up there with Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennet, and Christopher Hitchens. The event is free, and open to the public. All are welcome!
