Featured: Rafael Mena, Orange County CIO + Mentorship in the Community

We had a great turnout our first meetup, thank you all for coming.

Our next meetup will be held at the new offices of Envy Labs at the GAI building. If you haven't had a chance to check it out, it's an amazing collaborative space which also holds Starter Studio, a tech startup accelerator.

This group serves as a forum for collaboration, networking, education, to lift each other up and develop mentorship within women and minorities in technology-related fields. Our objective also includes developing programming to help other tech companies or those who hire within the tech field become more inclusive and welcoming to women and minorities.

We will hold a fireside chat with Rafael Mena, Orange County's Chief Information Officer. You may not be aware, but Orange County has before topped the list of large counties best applying technology to the business of government. Mena helped Orange County develop into an exemplary model for IT-savvy government.

We will also have a discussion about our ongoing mentorship project. We are developing a database of mentors and role models in STEM fields but specifically tech who can take on specific mentees or projects we will be coordinating soon.

Please also like our new Facebook page. There are tons of interesting articles we want to start disseminating, plus we'll announce meetups there as well. https://www.facebook.com/WomenandMinoritiesinTech

See you soon!

I was thinking about this just last night. Would any mentors/tech veterans be interested in something like informational interviews or conversations? I'm trying to change industries, and would like to talk to someone in my field of interest, to see where I'm "at". It's hard to navigate when you don't want to fall victim to imposter syndrome, but also need an honest evaluation of your skills and what you need to learn or practice. Would anyone else be interested in such a thing?
