This group practices and studies Tibetan Buddhist meditation under the guidance of our teacher Lhoppon Rinpoche. We host Rinpoche when he travels from his residence in Boulder, CO to the Puget Sound area several times per year. We also receive weekly telephone meditation instruction and teachings from him.
Lhoppon Rinpoche is dedicated to sharing the Dharma in the west. He received intensive training in the monestary by Tibetan Buddhist Teachers who poured into him & other young lamas, an abundance of profound, ancient empowerments & transmissions. Motivated by losing their homeland, Rinpoche's teachers were determined that the Dharma would continue.
Lhoppon was born in a Tibetan refugee camp in Bir, India. His mother was not confident he would survive his infancy. Both his mother and grandmother were dedicated Buddhist practioners, and worshipped the family's protective diety, Guru Rinpoche. Concerned for Lhoppon's life, they offered him to Guru Rinpoche at the edge of the sacred Lake Tso Pema, also known as Guru Rinpoche Lake. Whatever Guru Rinpoche wished would be Lhoppon's fate. Steeped in this sacred environment he revealed auspicious signs resulting in his entry into the Palyul Cho Khor Ling Monastery at 5 years old. His childhood was spent training and practicing. He studied with His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, who guided him to receive teachings from many great teachers and to eventually teach in the East and West. Upon completing his training, Lhoppon was guided to provide services for the dying and deceased with many people. At age 27 HH Penor Rinpoche sent Lhoppon to teach in Washington, D.C., Ashland, Oregon, San Francisco, and Boulder, Colorado-his current home.
