Special Feature: Designing & Developing for Windows 8

Windows 8, the newest platform for mobile apps, is the next generation of the most popular operating system in the world.  This gives a new opportunity for developers to provide a more immersive experience on the desktop or on mobile devices.

In this special 2-part session, we're excited to have Ashley Arbour (Interactive Designer) and Mukul Seth (Interactive Developer) share with us their experiences in working with WP 7 and Windows 8 apps. They'll also talk about key features that you need to know to build HTML/JavaScript or XAML/C# apps.

Here's a highlight of what we'll be discussing together:

Part 1 Design:

  • Metro style design Principles
  • & the Windows Personality
  • User interface & user experience
  • Touch interactions & animations

Part 2 Development: (knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript would be beneficial)

  • Metro style apps
  • Using Visual Studio
  • Handling data requests & formatting
  • Migrating apps from WP 7 to Windows 8
  • Cloud services
  • Introducing the Windows Store

If you are a tech startup or a student developing Windows apps, check out the number of free Microsoft software and perks through initiatives like BizSpark and DreamSpark.

Bring your questions and ideas to this session, we hope to see you there!
