Lunch at the Lab "Healthy Living: Active Transportation & Farmers Markets"

Increasingly Arlington offers healthy choices for living.  Walking, cycling, outdoor recreation and farmers markets are among these healthy County initiatives.  But how to really incorporate these into an overall healthy lifestyle can seem difficult.  For example, is it possible to cycle or use transit on shopping trips?  How might I carry my fresh tomatoes and ears of corn home with me if I don't drive there?

Join us for an interesting discussion about the wonderful nutrition available at Arlington's Farmers Markets lead by Senior Nutritionist Jennifer Able of Virginia Cooperative Extension. And great tips from our colleagues at Arlington County Commuter Services about how one might go shopping without having to take your car.  Healthy living takes practice!

What are your thoughts?  Bring your ideas to the discussion for how we can better incorporate healthy living practices into the shopping trip!

Oh, and while you're here, visit the Rosslyn Farmers Market taking place just outside our door (Thursdays, 11am-2pm).  Yummy fresh local food!

Mobility Lab will have fresh sandwiches and drinks for this brown bag.  We hope you can join us!

Unfortunately I will be out of town that week but I would like to raise the topic of Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), an exiting mode that is finally seeing the light of day. The advantages for virtually every measure of a modes effectiveness are enormous. If you are not familiar, Google PRT, look at the Booz-Allen study for the Dulles Corridor, the New Jersey study, the functioning system at Heathrow and the proposed system for Tel Aviv. I will be harping on it next meetup :-)
