Finally...An activity for the WHOLE family!

Family Campout!

After receiving many requests from members wanting to involve their children and family members in the joys of mining history and having to turn them down due to age requirements we are now hosting an activity for the whole family! Friday evening we will be camping up Ophir Canyon with a potluck dinner, dutch oven cookout, and mining stories around the campfire. Saturday morning we will head into town to visit the museum and learn about the history of Ophir followed by a trip up to the Ophir Hill machine shop and compressor house to discuss mining technology past and present. This will be a very fun and exciting way to kick of the 2010 camping season!

Gear List:

Basic camping gear:
Sleeping bag
Air mattress
Warm Clothes
Dutch oven if participating in the cookout
Dish to share at the potluck
Bring your kids!

One to two weeks prior to the event we will be sending out an email with a more specific camping location as well as other updates and information. Questions? Email Stuart or Crystal Donations are appreciated, look for the donation box at the campout!

It rained for what seemed like the whole time. However, it was still a fun trip.

How soon are you all going to be up there . I need to find a spot for two big tents. And then reserve it so I can go get the rest of the gang.

The camp out is still on as scheduled, we are just waiting on a report about snow conditions before an email is send out. To get to the camp site(s) just take Ophir Canyon all the way until the road ends. There are camp spots all up and down that road. I'll explain more in the email.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
