Monday May 18th 6:30-9pm Network for the first 30-45 minutes then have four speakers speaking for 10-15 minutes each with Q&A time after each speaker.
We will be meeting at Google for some networking, pizza and speakers. We will have a few speakers so you get a feel of the different monetization options out there. There will be plenty of time for questions so please bring yours. - Michael, the CEO at Justin.tv, will speak on business models of Justin.tv, specifically monetization and advertising strategies at the company (http://www.justin.tv/...) - Ali, the COO of Peanut Labs, will discuss the monetization available for sites with incentivized traffic (www.peanutlabsmedia.com) -We will have two other speakers as well, but I wanted to let you know what we have so far so everyone can plan. I will update when they are confirmed.
Thank you to Google for providing a space for us. Google thought that our members might be interested in this as well: Join us at Google's largest developer gathering May 27 - 28, 2009 Moscone Center, San Francisco For more info: http://code.google.co...
“ I didn't know the meetup was more about monetization of online games rather than Web 2.0 which is actually much more than games and media. However, it left a very good impression and I would definitely be on the next one. ”
“ The meeting organization was terrible. The meeting wasn't called to order until nearly 7:30. And the ridiculous idea of having 100 people introduce themselves 1 by 1, so we didn't get to the panel for another 15-20 minutes. A largely wasted hour for 100 people, really inconsiderate. And not at all cute as the meeting leader seemed to think.
Beyond that the panel was simply too large. A panel of 3-4 gives time for each member to articulate a position. A panel of 6-7 just provides time for sound bites.
Beyond that I didn't come out of the meeting with anything new. Selling advertising and game enhancements - this is old news. The need to support 75+ payment gateways - a pain, but hardly strategic. And why do a bunch of techies think they know anything about consumer behaviour? IIf getting an emotional hook is so important, then where are the psychologists?
Negative, yes. But the many attendees show the intense interest in the topic. Too bad that not much value was provided. ”
“ Waste of time. They also changed the location without updating the MeetUp description. It was supposed to start at 7pm but the speakers didn't start until after 7:45PM when I lost my patience. ”
“ The change of buildings was a last minute, and I am sure some people missed it.
There was not enough pizza and people ran out of a place to sit!
It was too game focused, and too geared to peanut labs. ”
