Monkeys with Typewriters (MoWiTy) is an extreme writing group bent on hammering out our novels (or whatever projects we're working on) and having fun too. If infinite monkeys can create a masterpiece, so can we.
We do not limit ourselves to writing -- any creative endeavor a member feels like working on is appropriate for MoWiTy. During regular meetups, our members write, draw, blog, design, code, or work on whatever other projects they are up to.
The purpose of our meetup is to provide members with a few hours to work on their creative projects in a supporting environment. We generally meet weekly. A typical meeting is relatively unstructured: We meet up in a public space with free wifi. During the first 30 minutes of our meeting, we discuss our individual goals for the evening and the progress we've made since the last meetup. Then, we work independently on our projects for the rest of our time, quietly working and sometimes casually discussing our work.
We strive to create a productive, friendly and fun environment -- we hope you can join us!
-- BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! --
Our main meetup is the Monkeys with Typewriters Meetup for Writing and Creating, which is our weekly meetup where we sit around and write and create together.
Due to popular demand, we've also added Monkeys with Red Pens, a writer's critique group that meets every other week.
Occasionally, we host a social meetup, which is usually called Monkeys with [Something Festive]. During these we hang out and talk about writing, creating, and any other thing that comes up.
During the month of November, members are welcome to join the National Novel Writing Month (NaNaWriMo) challenge with us! Learn more at NaNoWriMo.org.
If you're a member and would like to participate in our Facebook group between meetings, please join us on Facebook.
We also have a sister group, called Kittens with Typewriters, which meets during weekdays in Alexandria. KiWiTy is organized on Facebook -- if you're interested, you can join here.
