Green Singles June Outing: Bear Mountain Inn

Meetup time:

Noon: Meet at Cheesequake Rest Area on the Parkway for carpooling. This rest area is at mile marker 123 (Sayreville area). Come into the building and we will meet in front of Starbucks.

2:00: Meet at Bear Mountain Inn for a walk, followed by a meal.

Carpools meet at noon on the Parkway. The entire group meets at 2:00 at Bear Mountain. If you are not carpooling, we are meeting at 2:00 at the Bear Mountain Inn. We will meet in the lobby by the gift shop.

Let's go to the Bear Mountain Inn for some walking, the zoo, some food and BREATHTAKING views of the Hudson valley. We will walk around Hessian Lake and visit the zoo as described at http://www.trailsidezoo.org . Afterwards we will pick one of the 3 restaurants at the Inn for an early dinner.

Since we are a green group and this is a little farther afield than we usually go, so let's arrange some carpools. I've already started the discussion thread for carpooling. If you are not carpooling, meet us at 2:00 at the Bear Mountain Inn. The fee for parking is $8.00, and this should be discussed in the carpool discussion.

The Bear Mountain Innhttp://www.visitbearmountain.com , has been closed for years to refurbish the interior. Now, it is a modern inn in a beautiful setting. We will be walking around Hessian Lake and visiting the zoo. Here is the trail map: http://www.visitbearmountain.com/files/603/BearMountainTrailMap.pdf

If you see a bear, don't try to pick it up and put it into your pocket. It probably won't fit, and even if it does, the bear probably won't enjoy it.

Bring money for an evening meal and parking.

CHECK Your email the night before this event! This event will be cancelled if rain is forecast.

Green Singles events are low-key and welcoming. We are open to singles between the ages of 18 and 88+. Please, leave your children and pets at home.

      Sorry Jan; but I just changed my RSVP to a 'no'. I thought the walk around the lake was going to be a much longer hike. This is way too far of a drive for me to go all the way up there to just do a short one mile walk. Sorry for the late change in plans.

    Brian;

    Any idea when we may be done, and start heading back to NJ? I want to stop at Campmor either on the way up, or on the way back. I just checked their website, and it says they close at 8pm on Saturdays. How likely would it be for us to be finished with the hike, the zoo, and dinner by 6 or 6:30pm? If not very likely (I don't want to rush); then I may skip meeting at Cheesequake at noon, and head up earlier so I can stop at Campmor on the way up.

    Also; what would you recommend wearing for the hike? Hiking boots, or sneakers?

    I just remembered that I have a appointment for my car it's on recall so it needs to be taken to the dealer on Saturday. Maybe next time.
