The “Coding Dojo” sounds real interesting to me.

I've made this as a suggestion for a separate meeting - we could try a 45 minute "Coding Dojo" so people can get a taste of some real time programming - and learn what are Unit Tests, what is Test Driven Design, get a feel for Refactoring - and other skills that programming masters are using to create near zero defect code.

A martial arts dojo is usually a building, a coding dojo is a meeting where a bunch of programmers get together around a programming challenge. http://codingdojo.org. Often times they will run a "kata". I've done my first few kata's this year - and one was with Llewellyn Falco who presented at the Agile 2010 conference in Orlando last month. We met after the conference at the hotel pool and we got our laptops and he showed me the power of the practice of a code kata.

Since there's such strong interest in the PHP language, I'd like to propose we run a short dojo in PHP. I ran a kata today after I saw Jason's note - and I found it quite a fun way actually to learn PHP which I've never written a program in from scratch. I'm liking PHP a lot more now - and you will too after the Kata.

 Hey, everyone!

So, according to tradition, we have a Missoula meetup here next week.

However, we don't really have a plan. So I'm open to suggestions: anyone have an idea?

I can definitely come up with something, but I feel like I talk a lot, so if someone else has a topic they'd like to present I'd prefer to let someone else do the honors. :)

I'm tentatively thinking Tuesday the 14th would work best. How does everyone feel about that?

Get back to me, let's see if we can't make this work!

Jason
