Honest Tea co-founder Seth Goldman

Seth Goldman started with lemonade stands as a kid, and co-founded Honest Tea in 1998. Goldman will talk about his pathway to creating Honest Tea as a mission-driven business, the challenges he has faced as an entrepreneur, the importance of creative problem-solving, his commitment to fair trade and sustainability, and his new book, "Mission in a Bottle."

Over the past 10 years, Honest Tea has thrived with a 66% annual compound growth rate, as consumers have shifted toward healthier and more sustainable diets. In 2008, The Coca-Cola Company purchased a minority interest in Honest Tea, fueling further growth as Honest becomes the first organic and Fair Trade brand to move into the world's largest beverage distribution system.

Tastings of Honest Tea included in this free event, which is presented by the Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship at Montclair State University.

Amazing. Easy to understand why a clear, concise mission for a business is so important. They fight for it day in and day out. A shining example to us all...

Seth Goldman did a great job - interesting, animated and plenty I was able to learn from. I'm struggling to recall the breakdown of costs & pricing. I've written what I have below, but don't have the last ten cents of cost (water + ?). Please help me with that, if you can.

    Retail price: $1.59
    Store pays $1.00
    Distrib pays $.77
Total cost to manufacture each bottle: $.40

    Label .01
    Cap .02
    Compact (bottling fee) .09
    Freight .08
    Tea .04
Shrinkage (damaged labels, bottles, etc) .01
    Tray .01
    Honey/Sugar .04
    Water+ (?) .10

    Enjoy the day!

THANK YOU! Great event. So well organized. Seth was inspiring, so full of energy and great advice. I am not a student at Montclair State University and was thrilled to learn that this and other events similar to it are open to the public. Confirms that the Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship is an invaluable resource to the community. Can't wait for their next event.

Seth gave a great talk regarding his entrepreneurial journey (from an idea brainstormed with his university professor to around the world on a mission). Thoughtful insights. Congrats to Dennis Bone and his team at Montclair for a job well done.
