Four teams of Montclair State University students will pitch their product/service innovations during the first annual Telebrands Inventors Day for Aspiring Entrepreneurs, with the winning team walking away with a $10,000 prize.
The students' pitches will be evaluated and judged by a panel of three judges led by Telebrands President and CEO AJ Khubani, a Montclair State alumnus. Khubani is widely considered the leader in the nation's $350 billion "As Seen on TV" industry and the event is partly based on his famed Inventors Day model, the one through which Khubani has discovered dozens of products. Khubani is underwriting the $10,000 prize.
The other judges are Anthony "Sully" Sullivan, TV pitchman, and Cathy Mitchell, TV pitchwoman.
Telebrands Inventors Day for Aspiring Entrepreneurs is the culmination of two semesters of work in which the Montclair State students created business models and marketing plans for their products/services, as well as hypothetical methods for obtaining capital funding, all in conjunction with volunteer mentors. The students are pursuing a Certificate of Entrepreneurship from the Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship at Montclair State University, and the pitch competition will help determine their final grade. The students have lived a true entrepreneurial experience during the school year, experiencing the hard work as well as frustrations they will face on the long road to launching a successful business. Seed capital for each team was funded by Ellyn McColgan, a member of the board of NASDAQ OMX and a Montclair State alumna.
