What we’re about

~We are currently meeting on Zoom.~

*Please RSVP to each weekly event to see the Zoom link for that meeting.*

**Our dues structure has changed. A single, annual $18 payment is required of regular members to cover the cost of one year of Meetup and one year of Zoom.**

Socrates Cafés are gatherings around the world where people from different backgrounds get together and exchange thoughtful ideas and experiences while embracing the central theme of Socrates: that we learn more when we ask questions along with others. Learn more at http://www.philosopher.org/en/Socrates_Cafe.... Rediscover the art of conversation and civilized inquiry. Come join us for great discussion. All are welcome; no philosophical background is necessary. Although we meet every week, it is not necessary by any means to come every week in order to fully participate. Please come whenever you can. At each meeting we choose a question to discuss from among those submitted by members. Conversation is open and respectful. A few simple rules are followed. Come join us for great discussions and to meet interesting people. Meetings are free, but a small donation is requested to cover the cost of the room and the Meetup fee. Meetings are held every Tuesday night, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. We used to meet at The Office, but are still searching for a permanent location, so check each date for the location and the latest information. No RSVP is required. Just come and join us! Don't be concerned if the number of YES RSVPs is low. There are always plenty of people attending who are not members of Meetup. But please do RSVP if you plan to attend.
Just some information on the weekly meetings:
Hi, guys! Thanks for your interest in this meetup! I know it can seem confusing if you’ve never come before. I just wanted to let you know that it’s not necessary to do any work ahead of time or to bring anything with you. If you have an idea you’d like to talk about, that’s great! You don’t have to come with any specific ideas, though, and you don’t have to propose any there if you don’t want to.
The facilitator (a moderator who changes every week) announces the ideas anyone has at the beginning of the meetup, and then we vote on each one as a group. The idea with the most votes is the idea we discuss as a group for the remainder of the time. We take turns speaking, and are all given ample opportunities to share our thoughts on the subject. If you’d like to listen without speaking, that’s ok too. We tend to wander off in different directions, which is part of what makes each meeting so interesting and unique. I know I feel like I learn a lot from the other people there.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I just wanted to give you an idea of how the meetings go.
I can’t wait to see you there!
