This is a group for musicians of all levels who want to learn to play jazz on their respective instrument. Some people who may get a lot out of it include: Classically trained musicians, hobby musicians, amateurs, beginners, people hoping to study jazz in university, aficionados who want to learn to play, or people that love listening to the music and just want to get an insider perspective on appreciating and enjoying it.
What to expect at meetups: Small group jazz sessions will consist of as much music playing time as possible. We will however spend time discussion theory as it relates to what we're playing. We will also be doing some listening to help us play and understand the music. In general, I will hand out about 5-10 charts of tunes that we will be playing. These will be yours to keep. I may from time to time also hand out sheets with some theory, exercises, and other useful information.
What to Bring: Pleae Bring a 3-ring binder, a pencil, your instrument, an open mind and a positive attitude. Musical manuscrpit paper will also come in handy.
Requirements: All members are expected to attend at least 2 session per month in order to remain in this group. For special circumstances please speak to me directly (like illness, vacation, etc.)
Sponsorship: My teaching studio is sponsoring this group as part of it's community outreach effort. To recieve 10% off of your private lesson tuition, you must attend at least 2 sessions per month and be a member of this online meetup group. I will probably add another perk later on. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
