Moon Circles NC is a Wiccan open circle. Everybody is welcome regardless of tradition or experience. We are informal and eclectic, and hope that everybody will feel comfortable joining us.
We meet on the first Sunday of each month to circle together.
Are you curious about what to expect at a Moon Circle Esbat?
Each circle begins with a grounding meditation. You will be led through this meditation to imagine yourself as a tree with roots extending into the earth. This is a way to put yourself in the right frame of mind for circle and to help balance yourself before we begin.
The circle is usually cast by a person walking the perimeter of our working area with an athame (a black handled knife). The purpose of the circle is to create sacred space for us to be in, to contain the energies we are working with, and to keep the mundane world out.
After the circle is cast, we will call the quarters. Calling the quarters invites the elements from the four cardinal directions to strengthen our circle and lend their energies to our work. These directions and elements are:
East - Air
South - Fire
West - Water
North - Earth
As each quarter is called, every person will also salute that direction with their athame, if they have one, or their finger.
The gods we call and welcome to our circle are usually Cerridwen and Herne. Sometimes this may vary depending on what we are doing that night. The gods are generally welcomed by two people, a man and a woman.
The main working for the night changes each month. It may be a guided meditation or pathworking, spell work, or creating something to take home at the end of the night.
After the main working, we will have a cakes & wine ritual. If you have a chalice or cup you would like to use for cakes & wine please bring it with you. If you don't have one, no worries; we have extra cups available for you to borrow. The 'wine' we use is a non-alcoholic drink, usually juice, as we often have attendees under 21 in circle. We will make a libation of the cakes and wine to the gods before we partake of them. Cakes & wine is also a time for us to just sit and talk for awhile before we close up. This would be a perfect time to ask questions you may have about anything we've done during circle thus far.
We close up circle in the opposite order of how we set it up. We will thank the gods for joining us, dismiss the quarters, and open the circle.
Circle is generally informal. Dress is casual; most people wear street clothes.
Men and women are both welcome to circle. We prefer to keep attendees to those 18 years and older.
Please take into consideration some basic rules of circle etiquette:
Turn off cell phones before circle begins.
Do not talk while something is going on during ritual.
If you need to leave circle for some reason, please do so quietly. Do not come back in the room if a meditation is happening. Wait until the meditation is over to rejoin us.
Meeting new people and socializing is a big part of why we get together, but please be respectful of everyone. Be mindful of the appropriateness of what you say (this is not a time to hit on or flirt with someone).
Circle is NOT group therapy. Please try to keep conversation on the topic of our work for the evening.
