We're trying to put together a makerspace for Moore County, NC. A makerspace (or hackerspace) is a community space for technology-minded people to socialize, collaborate on projects, and share knowledge about electronics (microcontrollers, soldering, robotics), physical computing (3D printing, CNC, laser cutting), and other methods of making things (wood and metalworking, sewing). They typically have tools that are too expensive or large for individuals to purchase, store, or maintain on their own. They offer classes to help members that are new to any particular area get up to speed. They offer a space for members to discuss ideas about projects they'd like to make - whether it's art, an invention they'd like to prototype, or a modified children's toy. And they sometimes offer space for members to store projects that are too big to transport hither and thither. The key idea is to make learning technology easy, fun, and social.
