POSTPONED: Come out and play! February meetup: LOVE SONGS

POSTPONED FROM 2/5 TO 2/12:  Stay warm and be safe!

Using our Instruments Of Love to get you ready to woo your sweetheart for Valentine's Day. Plus celebrating Groundhog Day, of course.

Look for our LOVE SONGS SONGBOOK to be posted soon; print it out or download it to your iPad, and I'll bring a couple extra copies as well. Then we'll continue with a round-robin style jam, SO:
-- If you have anything you'd like us to play along with, bring a few extra chord charts!
-- If you have anything you've been working on, practice up and play it for us open stage style. We promise to be a generous and encouraging audience.

Anthony's is a BYOB place, so I'll be bringing some Woodchuck hard cider (in honor of the holiday). Any other refreshments you can imagine (including full dinner) will be available right there at all times.

Come out and play! (FEEL FREE to contact me if you have any questions or concerns, and let me know if you'd like me to come 30 minutes early to help you work on the songs from this night's songbook.)

See ya there!

I had a wonderful time, and slept unbelievably well - musta been the Glogg... (Grogg?) And then today I ate an entire pizza by myself! Imagine that! (Thanks, Betsy!)

A few of our folks are also Philly/Central Jersey folks, so we ended up with a schedule conflict - and I wonder whether the coming storm may have scared off a couple newcomers that RSVPd but didn't show. No matter, there will be plenty more meetups for them to come to. (So HEAL UP, Gina!)

    a fun time, as always.

Still bummed I was unable to play but recovering. Trying to hold onto the fact that we will meet next month. Later on this month, if you are interested in Irish Ballads, I could upload the chords for a few popular ones for a possible theme. They are loads of fun to play.
    Ciao.....

So glad we could meet in between storms! Again, the event was so well-run by Mark -- he's meticulous about preparing music and videos for the group-- and it's a supportive and fun environment for beginners and more advanced players alike. Looking forward to the next one on March 5!

February Morristown Uke Jam -- With hours to spare before the next snow storm swooped in, I had a wonderful time tonight playing and singing with everyone. Marko did a masterful job preparing the music and instructional videos for us to practice ahead of time. I'm looking forward to our March get together!

looks good for me to be there tomorrow unless another storm decides to jump the calendar. will try to get there for 6:30 as traffic tends to build up around that time so I could be there as late as 7. hope to see y'all!

Hello! I am Lilly but my brothers call me Ukulilly! :) The Island songbook is sooo cool! I can't wait to start working on some new tunes.

I surrender! Postponed until next week. I hope you all (including me!) stay safe and warm. I look forward to playing with you on the 12th!

Aww man. Next week is the Greater Philly and Central NJ Uke Ensemble I suggested it too so see you next month.

      February 5, 2014

    • Mark D.

That's a great problem to have, huh, Ken? When there are too many ukulele events and you can't attend them all? Life is good.

      February 10, 2014

  • david

thank you mark; i'm glad i won't be missing it. after
2-1/2 hours of shoveling and wrestling with the snowblower, i expect that by tonight i'll be too tired to play an Am7. see you next week.

    1 · February 5, 2014

    • Wendy

David, that's hilarious! When we can't play Am7, you know we're in trouble.....

      February 5, 2014

    • Mark D.

Usually when I'm that tired I play a C6 instead...

      1 · February 10, 2014

Thanks so much for postponing, Mark! I was dreading not only the driving, but also the parking in Morristown and clambering around on icy snowbanks trying to feed the meter! See you next week!

    1 · February 5, 2014

  • Betsychina

Phew. One more week to practice

    1 · February 5, 2014

    • Tom M.

My thoughts exactly! I'm going to need every one of these days to practice more.

      1 · February 5, 2014

  • Tom M.

Marco, I hope that you postpone tonight's Uke Jam until next week. Things are really icy here. Cash

  • david

based on what i see at the foot of my driveway, and what it will take to clear it, i think i have to pass on tonight's shindig. sorry to miss it. be safe everyone.

    February 5, 2014

    • Ken O.

I just shoveled close to an hour worth of slush from my driveway. The roads seem to be good but who knows if Anthony's is even open today.

      February 5, 2014

  • Slap P.

Definitely want to sit this out until the season of endless snow subsides and I can drive safely to Morristown... be seeing you!

    1 · February 5, 2014

  • Miriam

Hi Mark and everyone I was looking forward to meeting tonight, but all that ice on the roads is looking pretty frightening to me. I'm going to wait until next month's meeting. Be safe, everyone!! Looking forward to strumming with you then! :-)

    February 5, 2014

  • Mark D.

According to current forecasts tonight will be a mess, but the storm will be long over before our gathering. If that holds true, I'll be playing and singing with you tomorrow night! Final notes:

    February 4, 2014

    • david

if i'm dug out, and can still lift my arms, i'll be there. if not, sorry about that and see you next month.

      February 4, 2014

  • Mark D.

(Need to remember NOT to hit enter and post before I'm done!) #1: Please do check these comments or call me at[masked] tomorrow if the weather still looks questionable at that time. #2: Drive safely. If parking spaces are messy you may want to consider the nearby parking garages. #3: I already have a "taker" on my offer to arrive early, so I'll be to Anthony's at 6:30. If anybody else would like Any extra help (free uke tutoring!) just come early. #4: No more numbers! This counting thing is for the birds. Seeya tomorrow night!

Our LOVE SONGS SONGBOOK is now available in our files.

I also did something relatively absurd: Last night I created a video for each of the 10 songs, with a link on each page of the songbook that'll take you to that video. This is an experiment for me; i.e., I'm not committing myself to making lots of videos in the future, I'm just curious to see how helpful people feel they are. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO IGNORE THEM and just come and play with us. But if you'd rather play more fluently when you're with the group, I expect those videos are the easiest way to make that happen.

I'll be hoping for feedback on those; please feel free to tell me they're worthless, or priceless, or name the specific parts of the videos that are each of those. And of course I'll be looking forward to playing with lots of you on 2/5!

Betsy, about your uke staying in tune: Makes me wonder if perhaps your tuning pegs are loose. Most strings are pretty well stretched after a few days of use.

      1 · January 29, 2014

    • Ken O.

I like the ideas of the numbers but when looking at it it gets my head all weird, just got to get used to it I guess.

      January 30, 2014

  • david

does anyone have any thoughts on straps for a uke that doesn't have the button on the bottom? i know about the classical guitar strap style already, but was looking for alternate ideas. thanks all.

http://ukeleash.com/ I use one on my Flea, one on my Luna, and one on my banjo Uke. It is great!

  • Mark D.

    Okay, 3 more things:
-- I updated all the Island Songbook song sheets with the corrections people gave me (thanks!), regenerated the songbook and replaced it in our files.
-- I added all the song sheets from both our songbooks to our "Files" individually, in case anyone wants to access them that way.
-- I named all my files kinda weird. I put a "1" in front of the songbooks, and a "2" in front of the song sheets from the songbooks. This is so that if you sort by name, they'll be sorted separately.

I'd rather use folders, but Meetup doesn't accommodate that; oh well. Please go ahead and add anything else you'd like to; just leave them alphabetical so these others will sort this way. Thanks!

For those coming and need places to park here is a map http://www.morristown-nj.org/parkmap.html
it shows garages and there is street parking too limited but you can get lucky!

I think if you stay till after 9 they leave. so its free.

      1 · January 16, 2014

i was joking, but it's good to know regardless.

based on the february theme, is it safe to assume that march's focus will be U2 songs?

    January 14, 2014

    • Gina C.

Sounds like fun - my husband is from Ireland and I know how to play Irish ballads! They are so much fun!

      January 16, 2014

    • Ken O.

That should be good for the march Meetup!

      January 16, 2014

  • Gina C.

Hi - I have song to add to our 'Love Songs' if I may - "Will you still love me tomorrow". It is the first song I learned to play and the chords are simple and sweet. :)

    1 · January 16, 2014

  • david

    looking forward to it.

    1 · January 14, 2014

Yeah, it's looking good already. I should be done with it in a week or less, I think...
