Many thanks as always to Chuck for organizing the event and to all the folks that helped save the tables.

Thanks to David N. for driving us--and thank God we got that shuttle back up the hill.

Sorry, but I've got to cancel - I now need to be in Sacramento tomorrow...have fun everyone!!

Note to Kinderfesters - Please arrive no later than 9:45. Do not be late. Get there early to secure a parking spot for the day. Meters must be fed in Mill Valley on Sundays.
This will be a VERY BUSY place and the sooner we get in line the better chance of getting a couple good tables to stay shaded. We would like to arrive at the queue no later than 11:30 as the gates open at noon. This is a CASH ONLY EVENT and there is NO ATM machine on the premises. Bring lots of water to drink as it will be hot along the walk.
Get ready for a great event. PROST !!!

    Hi Chuck,
How long is the hike from the Cafe to the Tourist Club?

    Tks Ellen

It will be about a 90 minute hike, two miles+ but the steps are the hardest part. I remember doing this last year and then waiting at the gate until they opened up and let people in.

Wish there were no ("hard") steps, and just a steady/flat incline/decline--- so, will now need to pass, regretfully!

Well, as I don't wish to hike/descend stairs... on a slightly puffy knee, I might attempt an earlier auto climb, to join y'all there. HAVE FUN! :-0)

I'm finding an alternate route as well, but will see folks at the event. Definitely best to get there early since it gets extremely crowded by 2p!

It makes sense that I should attend since I'm 100 % German but have not much knowledge of the customs. Ancestors gave up the old ways & traditions when they moved to America.
    See u all there!

Will not be doing the walk up

There is a nice, groomed, dirt path that takes you to the back of the Tourist Club. The path is mostly flat/spectacular views and about 1/2 the distance. Its about 1/2 mile south of the Wine bar, on the right side of the road...look for a few cars parked along the road there or ask folks at the wine bar for directions. There are no markers per se unfortunately. Good luck

Is the trail going in mostly shady or in the sun? Looking forward to some good German beer, food and music!

Any suggestions about parking in or near the Depot Cafe for this long a term? Also, I suppose return to Depot via same route on individual basis?
    Thanks.

    August 23, 2013

    • Chuck D

There is some free parking in the area or in the hood. There is some free (on Sunday) spaces near the depot.

Clay, if Chuck D. says the steps are tough, then they really must be. No energy left to Polka and eat all that German food let alone walk back down after.
Wonder what a taxi would cost?

    August 23, 2013

    • Chuck D

The steps are not impossible. They are in three sections (300, 200, 150) and there are rests in between. the rest of the walk is mostly flat. Your other options are to check for busses or you can get up to the Panoramic Hwy. before noon and park in a pullout where you will not get a ticket. I did the steps 2 weeks ago and last year (when I was out of shape). We will make sure everyone makes it up the hill.
