25th Anniversary - Director's Cut - CINEMA PARADISO

This event is hosted by Mostly Marin member Kim ("Box Office Kim" to her friends!).

Limited to just 20 participants (waitlist is enabled) come over to Point Richmond to revel in this film about film.

The beloved 1989 Italian romantic drama CINEMA PARADISO, which won both the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film as well as the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, has its Bay Area premiere at the Magick Lantern in its special 25th Anniversary - Director's Cut. Restoring nearly one hour of director Giuseppe Tornatore's footage removed from its original release, CINEMA PARADISO has been accalimed as one of the greatest films ever made by audiences and critics alike around the world. More information can be obtained at:  themagicklantern.com   or by calling   [masked].

The box office opens 15 minutes before show time (which is 2:00 p.m.) so all people at Starbucks by 1:30 are guaranteed a ticket.

Located in "downtown" Pt. Richmond, The Magic Lantern is a cozy room - 40 seats plus beanbag chairs in the front row. The owner, a lover of film, introduces the movie and it feels like a small town experience in the good sense. Don't expect the Metreon or AMC but do expect a more intimate and meaningful movie experience.

Contact Kim (she's in the RSVP list!) or the magicklantern.com  for more info.

Please Note: The matinee price is only $5 but the theater accepts only CASH!

Great to share the most heart rending yet charming movie of a lifetime with you all who seemed to share the enthusiasm. Thanks again to Kim for a great selection I would otherwise been unaware of (Saw the original but the director's cut took it to a new level.)

Such a different feeling from the original version. I still enjoyed it but prefer the shorter version's storyline.

Good to meet you and thanks for organizing, Kim. That's my sentiment as well, makes it feel more like a Hollywood ending.

So sorry I couldn't make this great film showing. Still under the weather; decided, at the last minute, it was best (for *everyone*) for me not to go :( I'm sure it was fantastic!

When events have waiting lists it falls upon all RSVP's to change their responses to "Not Attending" before RSVP's close. This is a courtesy to anyone who had wanted to sign up but didn't because the event was full, as well as to the Hostess who waits for your arrival and had prepared special party favors for everyone. There are lots of reasons why people cancel and no one judges that...but Mostly Marin's No Show policy is clear about the protocol. Thanks to all who observe the spirit of the policy.

LOL!! Don, that is EXACTLY where I sat...on the big beanbags! Nice to talk with you, too...albeit briefly.

Apparently, my RSVP cancellation did not 'take' this morning...I was really looking forward to seeing the extended cut...unfortunately I could not make it back in time from Sonoma County all the way to Richmond...I hope you all enjoyed it.

Sorry I missed as well. Too much on my calendar today.

Ongoing old doggie problems are yet again keeping me from doing something I was really looking forward to - so sad, sigh.

Question: I have never been to this theater. Are the movie images projected through an opening in the wall that looks like a roaring lion's head ???

    • Kim

I don't believe so but thankfully they do have a functioning fire sprinkler!

Great question Arlene - I will find out and post the answer. Thanks!

I REALLY want to see this with the addition of the 1 hour - I thought it was perfect before but now it will probably be even more amazing. Sure hope the wait list opens up for one more loving fan!

For me, this is a must see at least once a year. One of the few that I've added to my DVD collection.

If you are a movie lover (like some folks I know) then you should NOT MISS this lovely movie for movie lovers. It will make you laugh and cry and tear at your heart strings.

This is quite simply one of the loveliest films ever made.
Incidentally, I am very interested in the additional one-hour of footage that was excluded in the original release (.. the copy that I have ).
