This has to be one of the best rides in AZ. Greg and I did this one in May and hit snow, should be OK in August. Did shorten it a bit skipping the loop through White River for those of us that don't have iron butts but there will still be 1000s of turns and plenty of beautiful scenery.
This loop is 425 miles starting at the Goldfield Rd. Chevron in Apache Junction. We'll stop for lunch at the Bear Wallow Inn in Alpine, one of the taste-tested, worth the drive rated in the AAA magazine, then head back into town via the Salt River Canyon.
Meet at 7:00 am, let's ride at 7:15.
hell jeff since u put it that way i dont know if i want to go lol. the yamaha isnt very fast either it shows max speed at 85 so i'll prob get it to 65
You might want to start out with something not quite as demanding, such as the Payson, Globe Show Low ride this weekend, which has a few technical sections to it, but is not as tough as the Devils highway ride. Thanks for joining MSRP, and we really would like to see you participating in the rides. Before you know it, your skill level will be up to any ride.
I wouldn't normally jump in here since i didn't organize this ride and I probably won't be going on it, but here goes. Jeremy, I agree with Jeff on this one. Normally, MSRP rides make provisions for every level of rider to be accomodated on the same ride. We use sweepers and meet up points where we can regroup so that no one gets left behind, but in the case of the Devils Highway, the ride is not the best one for a beginner as it is a really challengiing route. Hey we are doing this ride on September 3 with a overnight stay in Alpine. Interested in postponing this so we can all head out together? Or just go again?
Brian, I am going to keep it scheduled for the 14th. I can't wait for this one and the weather is looking good so far. You should post a new ride. Where do you stay in Alpine? I am off to Prescott for breakfast.
Any idea what sort of time we'll be back? I have plans in the evening I need to be back for.
Should be passing by the Chevron start point on the way back about 4:00.

Jeremy, I would not recommend this route for beginners. This has to be one the most challenging roads in AZ unless you go very slow which is not the plan. The Federal Hwy Admin. considers this road the curviest in the nation with over 1,100 curves in just the 120 mile section north of Clifton. One wrong move can be deadly because there are no shoulders and no guard rails separating you from the cliff?s edge. There are signs marked ?10mph for the next 6 miles?. Welcome to MSRP!
