Mount Dora Chick Lit Book Club: July "The Light Between Oceans: A Novel"

The Light Between Oceans: A Novel by M.L. Stedman

After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a “gift from God,” and against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

Sorry to miss tonight, but I'm caught in the middle of writing a contract for a house, for a customer.

Enjoyed the book, but felt much more empathy for Tom. I could understand that Isabel was blinded by grief when the baby first washed ashore, but once she knew another mother was suffering I lost my sympathy for her. A heartbreaking set of circumstances on many levels.

Very sad to inform everyone that I will not be going. My grandfather is in the process of dying and my mother is heading out of the country to be by his side. Since she will be gone it is just my father and I alone and I will be his primary caregiver so I cannot leave him alone for very long. Hope everyone has fun tomorrow! Hope to see you lovely ladies next month.

Would anyone happen to have a copy of this book they'd be willing to let me borrow a couple of days to read before this meeting? I'm a FAST reader and take VERY good care of books! This book sounds like a great read! I'm embarrassed to ask, but I'm just a little short on funds to buy it at this time.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
