Let's get together to practice Japanese!

We will continue with our "Halloween and Obon" reading and discussion this week, starting on Page 5. Please share with us any interesting Obon facts! Do you know of any similar Obon-like event in other cultures?

If time allows, we will read one more Japanese ghost story, the "Hyakumonogatarino Yuurei (百物語の幽霊)".

Wow, looks like a nice turn out! If the group gets bigger or if you'd like to find a quieter place, try Le Boulanger down on Castro.

      Hi Kieve,
Thanks for the suggestion. We will try it out. Hope your Chinese group is going well. Just so you know, you are being missed here.
Btw, your friend Wendy was here today.

If time allows, I would like to discuss the Seven Good Fortune Gods (しちぶくじん、七福神)and some interesting facts that I found!
I know it's not really related to Halloween, but I am happy to talk about it if we have time =]

I will be a maybe. It depends if my friend still wants to meet on Sunday. It depends on his work schedule which he gets on Saturday. I will update then! If I can make it, I look forward to practicing Japanese with you all!

Hey, I'm looking forward to practicing Japanese with everyone! Since this is my first time, I have a silly question...does everyone print out the stories beforehand? Or do people bring tablets/laptops and read off of them?

I think it's a good idea to print out the readings!
Although there is Internet at Tapioca Express, it is not stable enough to download the files.

yes, I've seen people read off their tablets or cell phone, but the internet connection is very flaky, so it'd be good if you download it to your tablet/laptop beforehand.

Jessie, thank you for sending the material; but somehow, I am not able to open it. Can you be so kindly and resend in another format? shizu

      Hi Shizu-san,
I uploaded the two files ("Halloween and Obon" and "Hyakumonogatarino yuurei") that we will read this Sunday under the More->Files section. They are in MS Word 2010 format. Hopefully they work this time.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
