Summer is "obake" season. But more so, summer is about "Obon".
"Obon" is the time when the families worship their ancestors and deceased family members. It is also believed that the gates to heaven and hell are opened during the Obon period so the spirits of the deceased return to the living world. Depending on the religious groups and their practices, various activities and services take place.
Feel free to download the file "Halloween and Obon" (uploaded on 10/17/2013) from the More -> Files section to learn more about Obon.
This week we will be attending the Obon festival taking place at Palo Alto Buddhist Temple. There will be many exhibits, foods and fun for the family so feel free to be there early to join the fun. We will participate (dance?) the Obon Odori that's starting at 7:30pm.
Let's plan on meeting at the Palo Alto Buddhist Temple between 5 - 5:30pm. I believe parkings are available on residential streets nearby.
