What is your background/experience in Japanese language?

My parents are Japanese immigrants, and I was born in the US. I refused to speak Japanese since 1980, the last time I visited Japan for non-work related reasons. (I was a kid then.) I cannot speak Japanese, but I can understand a little.

What would you want to accomplish through this Conversation opportunity?

I hope to visit Japan again within the next few years to see my extended family. I visited back in 2009 for work, but didn't see any family because I wasn't be able to talk to them. That was sad and I hope to change that.

I work in manufacturing for lasers and optical products. I have fond memories of Godzilla, Ultraman, and more obscure Japanese kids shows growing up. Today I like Naruto a lot and never lost the taste for Japanese comfort food.
