Cathkin Braes XC-Red Run

Cathkin Braes will be the venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games MTB event. Although not yet complete, it is 100% rideable, and being constantly improved. Public use is being encouraged, as this will help bed-in the track and make it games ready.

The course, 5.5km long has a mix of terrain such as open heathland, wooded areas and challenging climbs and descents.

This is graded red, as although there are easier options, at present it may not be suitable for beginners. There are quite steep descents, and very tight tricky corners. It also features grueling uphill sections, some of which may seem impossible to all but freakishly super-fit drug cheats!

Although starting a wee bit later, the plan would be to do 2-3 laps which should take 1-1.5 hours. It is quite an intense course, so this should be plenty.

As usual, no Helmet, no ride. Please also make sure your bike is in good working order and you wear suitable clothing as Cathkin is quite exposed and prone to horizontal rain. Decent trail lights are required as it is unlit, so your bike lights will need to light the way, if you're unsure post a message on here.

If not, get yourself a train to Anniesland/Jordanhill, I can provide taxi services up to Cathkin and back if required.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
