Beginner's Night

For those who haven't been out before or just haven't been out for a while. We'll be taking an easy wander around some of the paths and trails for a couple of hours or until it gets too dark so starting off at 6pm to try and get a wee bit of time in before the daylight deserts us. Start off from the car park at Milngavie train station we'll look at Dougalston Woods, the Waterworks and probably Drumclog Moor. Be prepared for the odd muddy stretch.

As ever, make sure your bike is in good fettle and if you don't wear a helmet, you don't get to ride. If you have lights then bring them along, you never know !

I had hoped to pick up lights before Thursday, but now that I've started to look into what to buy I'm totally confused! There's a shop near my work which I'll look in tomorrow but if I don't get anything then I'll un-invite myself :(

    March 19, 2013

  • Fiona M.

Er. I may need to borrow a light if there's a spare going and this weather keeps up. My normal lights won't cut it I don't think and short of strapping a head torch to my helmet....

Is this waiting list or bring snowshoes list? :)

I don't mind letting someone borrow a light for the night if I manage to make it on time

I would prefer 6pm to allow for traffic etc, however, I don't have proper trail lights and as the sun sets at 18:30 on Thurs and the weather is looking at near 100% overcast i think it will be too dark to spend 2hours or so without proper trail lights.. particularly for us beginners!!

    March 19, 2013

  • Johnny G.

To be onest. I was wishing it was gona be dark. My bike is so old andy kit is so cheap. Lol

Join the ranks. I enjoy nothing more than a good Poundland or ebay bargain.

If getting a hold of lights is an issue then how about we try to kick off at 5:30pm ? That would give us 90 minutes before it was dark.

      March 19, 2013

    • Andy S.

      March 19, 2013

  • Johnny G.

Yes I can make 530 as long as the traffic is ok going through the clyde tunnel

I was out tonight with the Blue Monday squad and it was darkish by the time we started out. We might get a bit longer if the sky is a bit lighter on Thursday night and we might try to stick to the main paths as the night goes on.

Hi all, I'm new to the group also. RSVP'd as I should have my lights by Thursday. Can I assume they will be an essential for this meet (I haven't signed up to previous meets on this basis)?

what he said :) The beginner rides are designed to get newbies out on the bike. They are very social events and are always run at the pace of the slowest, no one gets left behind
