Cathkin Braes XC-Red Run

Cathkin Braes will be the venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games MTB event.

The course, 5.5km long has a mix of terrain such as open heathland, wooded areas and challenging climbs and descents.

This is graded red, as although there are easier options, at present it may not be suitable for beginners. There are quite steep descents, and very tight tricky corners. It also features grueling uphill sections, some of which may seem impossible to all but freakishly super-fit drug cheats!

Although starting a wee bit later, the plan would be to do 2-3 laps which should take 1-1.5 hours. It is quite an intense course, so this should be plenty.

As usual, no Helmet, no ride. Please also make sure your bike is in good working order and you wear suitable clothing as Cathkin is quite exposed.

The track is really coming into its own with people getting out and riding it! This is a nice little gem to have in our urban back garden!

Mainly road bike this past 12 months. Looking to get back into MTB. Had a go round Cathkin last week and rode just about everything, the tricky wee climb at the bottom of the wooded singletrack caught me out.

Decided to go tubeless, What a lot of faffing about. Not sure if gained anything or even if it actually worked. Tyres have held pressure need to see how they ride now

Fecking Stan no tubes. Need to reseat the front tyre. Can't have done it completely wrong or the rear would also be down. Another 30 min job that takes 3 hours! May not make it tonight if I can't get this sorted.

Am going to say yes at mo but my parents might be coming to stay, so might have to pull out (one case where biking doesn't take precedence!)
