YOU MUST KNOW HOW TO LEAD CLIMB AND LEAD BELAY PRIOR TO ATTENDING THIS EVENT. - This course is intended for people who are already competent at lead climbing indoors but with little to no experience leading outdoors.
PMC is hosting a transition clinic to help you understand and develop the skills necessary to begin safely transitioning to outdoor sport leading. We will review hanging draws, belaying concerns unique to the outdoors, anchors, and cleaning techniques.
Getting There: Directions can be found on our website, but given the limited parking, we encourage carpooling. Carpoolers will meet at the Oakton rally point at 8am. For those of you meeting us at the crag, we'll be shooting to arrive by 9:15-9:30.
- Two shoulder length (approximately 60cm) slings or one Personal Anchor System (PAS). If you have neither, we recommend purchasing a PAS. REI carries one, as does Sportrock.
- Three locking carabiners.
- Basic climbing gear (harness, shoes, ATC with additional locking carabiner).
Additional Supplies: You are responsible for your own food, water (1 liter minimum recommended) and any additional needs you may have. There are no facilities in the nearby vicinity, so plan accordingly.
Cancellation Policy: If you can no longer make the event, please change your registration as soon as possible. This allows people on the wait list to join. If you fail to show for an event and do not cancel within 48hours, you will be considered a no show. Club members who have 3 or more no shows will not be able to register for future events for a period of one year whether its due to failure to cancel or the person does not show up for the event at all.
PATC-MS Member Only policy: This event is for members of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club-Mountaineering Section only, in good standing with liability waivers on file, unless otherwise stated. To join the club and enjoy its events and trainings, click here: www.potomacmountainclub.org/
This will be strictly enforced by event leaders. Any person who shows up to an event that is not a member will not be able to participate in the event.
Reminder: Climbing is a dangerous sport and serious injury may occur.
