Rappelling Safety Clinic

PMC will be running monthly clinics on rappelling safety. This is the first one, and we will continue them through October.

Have you never rappelled before? Not sure how to ensure you're set up properly? Do you just rely on your partner to set it up and trust that it's right?

Rappelling is the number one cause of climbing related accidents, according to the AAC. Come out and learn what simple steps you can take in any environment to make a big difference in safety.

Topics covered will include knots on the ends of the rope, autoblocks, extensions of the rappel device, single strand vs double strand rappels, and what to do when you drop your device. There will be lots of chances to practice rappelling in multiple different configurations, with discussions on the pros and cons of each style.

You will need rock climbing shoes, harness, at least two locking biners, and a rappel device. If you own a single or double length sling and prussiks, please bring those.

Yes, James, we will run that clinic again. It is a very popular one. However, it is also a very advanced clinic. You're welcome to observe on Saturday as I work with Catherine, but I won't have the chance to teach any of the skills.

Don't worry if you didn't make it in to this clinic, we'll be running this every month through at least October, so two more classes upcoming! I'll post dates for both of those after this month's club meeting.
