Ice Climbing: Frankenstein Cliffs (Intermediate+/-) level 2 or 3

Ice Climbing: Frankenstein Cliffs ( Intermediate )

Lets go pick off some of the last water ice climbing of the year down low.. Conditions are still looking pretty fair and yes we may encounter something a but less then perfect. But hey perfection is never obtainable anyways!

John Ho -- Dracula WI4+ 12/21/12

Frankenstein Cliff’s has waterfall ice routes ranging from low angle and easy to very steep and difficult all crag style of climbing. I have done a lot of my steep ice climbing here.

Classic steep ice climbs at Frankenstein include Standard Route, Pegasus, Dracula, Chia and too many others to mention. The short flat approach about 1 mile along a railroad track and numerous super fat ice climbs make this one of the best and most user-friendly places to go ice climbing in the East. Most climbs are multi pitch climbs with a walk off to the north west along a packed out decent route.

Group Size:

I will keep the RSVP at 2 climbers 3 person teams. As leaders for multie pitch climbing or a leader able to set up top-rope options RSVP I will add folks from the waiting list.

Gear:

You will need the listed Ice Climbing gear in the files section of our meetup page on line.

Definately be aware of your climbing abilities. It is not really intro ice climbing conditions

The ice is in pretty poor condition. The top 4 inches are totally granular. Screw placements are marginal as the ice is punky. Everything is real drippy.

I would really like to go but have never been ice climbing. Is there any possibility to join? If not, are there going to be any ice climbing meetups for beginners?
    Thanks,
    Shaun

Might be good to correct the template, it has shown as "indeterminate" in previous meetups as well.

Sorry but this is killing me, why is the meetup listed as indeterminate? Does this mean the location isn't specified? Every time I see it I think intermediate and think that I could do it! :)

The initial person to post the Meetup sets the level. Don't be shy if you on either side of that skill level just send out a thread under that Meetup and see if there is a leader or a be-layer that will follow you for that Meetup based on the level you climb.. I hope this helps and I typed this up so you can get a good understanding? Happy to help break it down further if you still have questions.. Being a micro group activities seams to work the best this way. We all split up as listed as teams on the Google documents that are listed in the details portion of a meetup and head off in different directions. Try looking at the detail sections of old past climbing Meetups like the NH ice fest where we had 32 climbers on the Meetup..might help further... Happy to chat...

We are always limited on Climbing Meetups by needing the Organizer for that Day, lead Climber & experienced Be-layer. Meetups group size can be 2 people or 20 as long as we have those three piece of the puzzle. the newbie followers are the 3rd on any climbing team and are helped by the other two climbers if they are willing.

Pick one location happy to post it for you.... Just cant be with lots of ???? You can always last minute move the climbing location if its due to conditions etc.. But those Meetups that have no direction just don't ever work out.. Feel free to call me if you want help...
