Ice Climbing & Camping Weekend: Lake Willoughby VT (Int - Adv)

Note: I happy to add as many climbers as I can to this trip. Just need lead climbers. All followers should be understanding of the skills needed in multie pitch climbing.

The land where the big ice is!!!!!

The Plan:

We will meet at the parking area on the south side of the lake and climb the ice at "LW" Lake Willoughby for the day.

That evening in another Meetup I have posted. We will set up our tents over on the state parks land just in from the parking lot area and crash for the night. Either making dinner in camp or rolling the 20ish minutes into town and grabbing pizza or other grub. Come back have happy hour and crash.

Sunday Another Meetup Posted you must RSVP for, get up break down the tents and hit the cliffs for more super ice climbing. Come down about dark and roll home.

Group Size:

Sign up for the Waiting list!!! I will have to limit the group to as many lead climbers I get for this trip. I will start off with 3 and add as I see leaders sign up for our trip. Dont be shy in contacting me for more info...

The whole area is about three pitch's tall and top roping options are limited.

Most ice is in the 4-5 grade level.... Some 3's

On route 5a about 15 miles north of Lyndonville, VT

This is the main wall at Lake Willoughby forming on the east side of the dramatic fiord-like notch. A mile and a half long in length and over 600 feet in high makes this one of the more spectacular areas in the north east.

Climbs are the easiest on the south side of the lake and increase in difficulty towards the north end at Mind Bender NEI 5+ and Call of the Wild NEI 6

Hike In:

Can take up to 30 - 60 minutes to reach the base of the ice even though parking is just below the ice routes.

Protection, you will need more then most days out. Large ice rack of about 16 piece's at a minimum. All routes are full rope lengths. You likely will rap the route and will maybe find "V" threads all ready placed at good belays areas. But should come prepared with your own ability of making "V" threads as a lead climber and have webbing a "V" threading tool and a knife for repelling the route. There is rap stations at the top of most climbs on tree's. Slower climbers my opt for the walk down on the trial back from the top and follows down south to the end of the cliff and down to the road.

Although in the sun in the afternoon. Wind chill temps can be very cold down or puff jacket is highly recommended which can be carried with you on the climb..

Waiver: Read !!!
