Wuthering Heights w/Laurence Olivier & Merle Oberon (1939) in Private Theater

One of the most acclaimed films in one of the greatest years in movie history, starring the devastatingly handsome Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon, whose life was one of the oddest of any film star--Indian (from India) by birth, she pretended not to be, lied about her birthplace, and, in Hollywood, had her mother pretend to be HER MAID.

Atmospheric, romantic, and tragic, the film is based on part of Emily Bronte's classic novel. Dir. the great William Wyler, who would be nominated for about 15 Best Director Oscars (his films incl. "Roman Holiday," "The Best Years of Our Lives," "Mrs. Miniver," "Funny Girl"). 104 mins.

Meeting Place; both the building and theater are wheelchair accessible: We are going to meet in new private theater downtown to which Jane has access (seats up to about 15, projector, stadium style seating).

THE MAIN THING YOU NEED TO DO IS TO GET TO THE INTERSECTION OF 6th AVE NO. AND CHURCH ST--SEE MORE BELOW

Parking is available across the street in the Main Public Library parking lot on 6th Ave No., a half block down from intersection of 6Th & Church.
Parking also might be available on 5th or 6th but the library is a sure thing!

*****Anyone taking MTA , to come downtown, take #7; it stops at Church & 9th Ave. No. (after Lifeway announcement) or main station about 3 short blocks away; and going home, the #7 stops about 2 blocks up on 6th Ave. No. The #3 also stops at the main station if you are coming downtown; and right across the street on 6th Ave. going back towards West End. *****

Jane will be in the lobby to greet you or you can buzz the concierge. Her cell number is 973-1744 in case you need directions.

***Coffee and conversation in the very cozy lounge before the movie.****

Derek's Additional Directions:

If this will be your first visit, the most important thing is plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early and give yourself plenty of time to find a parking space (I recommend the library too) and find the building.

Also, print these directions or be able to access them from your phone.

The Private Theater is in The Cumberland at 555 Church Street at the corner of 6th and Church.  On the other corner of 6th and Church on the same side of the street is the Nashville Public Library.  On the other side of The Cumberland is a UPS Store, then Quizno's Subs, then McKendree United Methodist Church at 523 Church.  Subway is directly across the street from The Cumberland facing it.

You go through 2 sets of double doors when entering The Cumberland.   The 2nd set of double doors is straight ahead.  You can Press 6# for the Concierge Desk for either set of doors that are usually locked.

After going through the 2nd set of double doors, walk straight ahead until you can't walk further.  You will pass the Club room/lounge on your right where everyone may be if you arrive early enough.

If you don't see them, then turn to your left where the hall dead ends at the 106-111 sign.  Then, at the Storage Room door sign - go to your right.  You will pass the exercise room.

You'll see the Media Center door straight ahead.  That's it.  Go through that door and then you'll go through another door that says Media Center.  There are also restrooms there.

Again, print these directions or be able to access them if you are going for the first time.

Thanks and have a great time!

Sorry I missed one of favorites. I was running very late. Stayed home and watched Rossellini films starring Bergman on TCM

Loved seeing this with others and hearing varied reactions. Also, it was very intriguing to see and hear (what enunciation, lovely power of expression) Olivier--much more subtle performance than what I remembered!

I liked the film. Some great moments of emotion and tragedy. Sir Laurence was great!

Sorry, only saw this after the movie; no need to bring anything ever. Also, if the bus ever gets you here early, you can wait in the lounge.
