Acclaimed film "The Master," Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams

Already predicted to be one of the top movies of the year based on reactions at film festivals; included in Entertainment Weekly's new Oscar predictions issue.

REVIEW:

"A film of intelligence and ambition."--Philadelphia Inquirer

"The Master captures in a way I've never seen the tension in American culture between stubborn individualism and a desire to be led, even by leaders who are ludicrous."--NPR

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, for which Daniel Day-Lewis won a Best Actor Oscar; Boogie Nights; Magnolia, for which Tom Cruise was nominated for an Oscar)

SYNOPSIS:

"A striking portrait of drifters and seekers in post World War II America, Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" unfolds the journey of a Naval veteran (Joaquin Phoenix) who arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future - until he is tantalized by The Cause and its charismatic leader (Philip Seymour Hoffman)"-- (C) Weinstein Company

Thought provoking, but not as much as I expected it to be. JP was pure genius in portraying a veteran suffering from PTSD and self-medicating with alcohol.

Kate, what do you think about Pei Wei? Or do you recommend another restaurant? I will post our decision with the address first thing in the morning. Does 1:30 or 2 pm sound okay?

I also am not very familiar with the restaurants in the Green Hills area. I have eaten at The Cheesecake Factory, but it is always very busy and noisy. I have also eaten at Ruby Tuesday's and Pei Wei Asian. Pei Wei is my favorite of the two, but not everyone likes Asian. I hear Table 3 is good and it is right by the theater. I have never tried it. So Jesse, Kate, and Kate's husband, what are your votes?

There are a few small places in the Whole Foods area. I have heard good things about Table 3. I am pretty flexible about restaurants. Kate, if you and your husband would like to choose a place and time to meet beforehand that would be great! I love the Frothy Monkey, but it may be more convenient if we met closer to the theater. When we all meet at the theater we can discuss a quiet place to have conversation afterward. Jesse, feel free to bring up ideas :)

A comfy coffee shop? Frothy Monkey on 12th Ave comes to mind. Or Whole Foods second floor? They have a sofa nook. I cannot remember other than Starbucks (busy, noisy) in Green Hills. Yelp suggests the Well coffee house & the cafe inside Nordstroms. We would be up for a light dinner before and coffee/dessert after.

Kate, you're right. Conversation afterwards would be great. Any place in particular. There are a few good places in the mall area and on the few surrounding streets.

How about conversation afterwards? This certainly will be a movie to discuss. Hubby says he wants to see this one, participation pending checking his schedule.
