1 of the Year's Top Films, "Argo" w/ & directed by Ben Affleck; dinner after

With John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad"). Directed by Ben Affleck ("Gone Baby Gone"; "The Town").

One of the top films of the year, expected to be a contender for top awards, it is getting great reactions at Film Festivals. Included in Entertainment Weekly's Fall Oscar Preview edition

SYNOPSIS:

"Based on true events, "Argo" chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis-the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.

On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador.

Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIA "exfiltration" specialist named Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible...."-- (C) Warner Bros.

Review:

"'Argo' is a crackerjack political thriller told with intelligence, great period detail and a surprising amount of nutty humor for a serious look at the Iran hostage crisis of 1979-81... Ben Affleck tells a dense, multilayered yarn....This is one the major releases of the fall season."--Hollywood Reporter

I am sad to cancel on the movie Saturday due to an obligation. I would have been my first meetup, and I can't seem to get any friends interested in seeing "Argo" with me. I am excited, though to join the group in the future.

Please note the location change. I was asked by a few past movie goers if we could try 101 Oaks. It is a nice theater.

The movie will also be an early matinee with dinner and discussion afterwards. That way we will still have our Saturday evening free.
