"The Ultimate Hitchcock Film" North by Northwest w/Cary Grant in Private Theater

"The Hitchcock picture to end all Hitchcock pictures," is what screenwriter Ernest Lehman told Hitch he wanted to write in 'North By Northwest,'" Cary Grant's last film w/Hitch.

Exciting, fast paced, featuring one of the most famous scenes in all of film--the climax on Mount Rushmore--the film is in turn suspenseful and thrilling

Chosen as 1 of the 10 Best Films of the Year by The New York Times and National Board of Review

Oscar nominations: Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Art Direction.

"With "North by Northwest" (1959) the ultimate Hitchcock picture is exactly what Alfred Hitchcock and writer Ernest Lehman produced. All of Hitchcock's trademark themes are here in the story of a man (Cary Grant) caught up in a swirl of mysterious events (involving spies) while being either hindered or helped--which is it?-- by a beautiful blonde (Eva Marie Saint). There's a gripping, imaginative chase scene... at an unexpected public landmark (Mount Rushmore)" (TCM website).

Great cast includes Grant, a menacing James Mason, Eva Marie Saint (Oscar winner for "On the Waterfront" with Marlon Brando) and Leo G. Carroll, a veteran of other films by Hitch (and part of the cast of "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." in the 1960s).

FANTASTIC score by Bernard Herman

Meeting Place; both the building and theater are wheelchair accessible: We are going to meet in new private theater downtown to which Jane has access (seats up to about 15, projector, stadium style seating).

THE MAIN THING YOU NEED TO DO IS TO GET TO THE INTERSECTION OF 6th AVE NO. AND CHURCH ST--SEE MORE BELOW

Parking is available across the street in the Main Public Library parking lot on 6th Ave No., a half block down from intersection of 6Th & Church.
Parking also might be available on 5th or 6th but the library is a sure thing!

*****Anyone taking MTA , to come downtown, take #7; it stops at Church & 9th Ave. No. (after Lifeway announcement) or main station about 3 short blocks away; and going home, the #7 stops about 2 blocks up on 6th Ave. No. The #3 also stops at the main station if you are coming downtown; and right across the street on 6th Ave. going back towards West End. *****

Jane will be in the lobby to greet you or you can buzz the concierge. Her cell number is [masked] in case you need directions.

***Coffee and conversation in the very cozy lounge before the movie.****

Derek's Additional Directions:

If this will be your first visit, the most important thing is plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early and give yourself plenty of time to find a parking space (I recommend the library too) and find the building.  Also, print these directions or be able to access them from your phone.

The Private Theater is in The Cumberland at 555 Church Street at the corner of 6th and Church.  On the other corner of 6th and Church on the same side of the street is the Nashville Public Library.  On the other side of The Cumberland is a UPS Store, then Quizno's Subs, then McKendree United Methodist Church at 523 Church.  Subway is directly across the street from The Cumberland facing it.

You go through 2 sets of double doors when entering The Cumberland.   The 2nd set of double doors is straight ahead.  You can Press 6# for the Concierge Desk for either set of doors that are usually locked.

After going through the 2nd set of double doors, walk straight ahead until you can't walk further.  You will pass the Club room/lounge on your right where everyone may be if you arrive early enough.

If you don't see them, then turn to your left where the hall dead ends at the[masked] sign.  Then, at the Storage Room door sign - go to your right.  You will pass the exercise room.  You'll see the Media Center door straight ahead.  That's it.  Go through that door and then you'll go through another door that says Media Center.  There are also restrooms there.  Again, print these directions or be able to access them if you are going for the first time.  Thanks and have a great time!

What a great movie. Loved the visual effects when they were on top of Mount Rushmore. I'll have to dress better when I go hiking.

Thank you for taking me off the wait list, but this traffic will prevent me from arriving on time (or even arriving).
