Starring: Amy AdamsChris PrattJoaquin PhoenixOlivia WildeRooney MaraSamantha MortonScarlett JohanssonSummary: Set in the Los Angeles of the slight future, Her follows Theodore Twombly, a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet "Samantha," a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other.Spike Jonze takes the helm as Director/Writer for this dramtic comedy about a withdrawn writer (Joaquin Phoenix) who falls in love with his computer's highly advanced operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johansson) in a near-future vision of Los Angeles.

Review of "Her" from Variety calls it a, "truly 21st-centruy love story."

Great to see everyone last night. We had a great turnout. I really enjoyed the movie and found myself thinking about it throughout the day. Based on the trailers alone, I would never have seen this movie, but the reviews were very good. I am now recommending the movie to my friends.

i enjoyed it. i think it is interesting to see where are future generation is going. in fact i thing we're a little to much into cell phones, texting and dealing with reality now. would have loved to stay for discussion but my 1st time. didn't know how this works or where we were meeting.

I want to talk about one small element of the film that struck me. It was set in Los Angeles. All of the large exterior shots showed the immensity of the urban area, yet the streets, the buildings, everywhere were populated at level more akin to a Kansas prairie town.
This choice by the director would pull me out of the film instead of supporting the underlying theme. It could have been as strong with a fully populated L.A.

Other than this one small point, I loved the film!

Thanks Laurel...based on trailers and my mindset, thought I would hate the movie! and went as a last minute...the review that Gerry cites hits the nail on the head for me... thought the movie got its point across for where the younger generation is heading (and some olders also)

Thanks, Laurel. I enjoyed the movie but didn't love it. Mick LaSalle says of The SF Chronicle says it better than I can: http://www.sfgate.com/movies/article/Her-review-No-future-in-virtual-relationship-5091276.php

Better movie than I was expecting but I had mixed feelings because due to my current situation, it hit a little too close to home. Very much enjoyed the meet up and hope to do that again soon.

It is a really thought provoking movie that raises all kinds of questions about love, self, society, intelligence, technology, etc. If I didn't have to get up so early the next day, I would have loved to have stayed for what I'm sure would have been a fascinating conversation about it!

Strangely humorous, but also disconcerting w/multi-faceted theme. Don't think I was the only one a little perplexed how to express reactions at the end. Maybe why such a small % stayed for post-show talking. But there was a lot to talk about after all and we had a great time. Thanks Laurel!

Was really looking forward to it, but I came down with a cold yesterday. :-( Don't want to disturb everyone in the movie with my cough, or get anyone sick. Hopefully I'll be able to make the next one!
