Snowshoe/hike to Snowbowl Hut/MTTA

This is the hut that was rebuilt after it was destroyed by a fire. Suppose to be the biggest on the system and most beautiful. Each hut/yurt has been unique and we want to make it to this one, this season.

It is a steady climb, like it was to High Hut. Mileage is approx. the same: 8miles RT
We will have our lunch at Snowbowl Hut and relax in a warm, inviting place, with hot water and great views, if it's clear.
Come join us for another adventure on the MTTA system before all the snow is gone.

BE PREARED for ALL types of weather. If you RSVP YES, also respond that you have read and will abide by guidelines. If this is missing, you won't be allowed to join us.
REMINDER: Bring cash for drivers, bag for muddy or wet boots or snowshoes, a pair of dry shoes to wear home. Bring your sense of adventure and humor. We are about getting out, finding and experiencing new trails and having fun while getting in shape.

Thanks, Syl, for getting this info. Mischellean has driven this route numerous times this season, so she knows where she is going to get to the TH. She also has a map of the MTTA trail system. Whoever else drives does need chains, even with AWH or 4WD, it's a state law in Wa. Hope to see everyone tomorrow at 6:45. We leave on time-so please, don't be late.

Continued: As of last weekend, the road from the 706 turn-off to the Snow Park was plowed, hard packed and passable, but you may encounter some slick or smushy spots. We generally recommend that folks have four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles, and a set of chains is never a bad idea up here! Not all of the back roads are plowed, and if you take a wrong turn, you may wind up on an unplowed road where you'll need those chains to get out. Another good reason to stop and grab a map! Hope this helps!

e-mail from MTTA: The main roads to Ashford should be fine...I'm assuming you'll be driving to Ashford on highway 706 from the west. The turn-off from 706 to the Snow Park is a couple of miles past Ashford...I'd highly recommend stopping by the MTTA office to pick up a map that shows you the route from the turn-off to the Snow Park. As you come into Ashford from the west, the MTTA office is located behind the Fire Station, which is one of the first buildings on the left in Ashford. You can park in the Fire Station parking lot (but not in front of their doors!). We try to have the office open by 8:30 or 9:00 on weekends. The office should have more current road conditions to the Snow Park when you stop in. You can always contact Washington State Department of Transportation (http://www.wsdot.com/traffic/ ) to see if they have any updates for road conditions between wherever you are coming from and Ashford.

Suu you in the morning. Mtta says snow level coming down and be prepared with chains. I'll need to rent chains at whittakers if I drive.

Yes, we still need another car/driver and snow park pass. I don't know what conditions will be. I tried checking the MTTA site for conditions but it didn't bring anything up. Sorry.

I have a Pruis, and a snow park pass, and could assist with driving, but I am worried about the conditions because I know it is not very good in the snow. I will bring it to the meet place in Puyallup (actually this is Sue writing this- couldn't bring up mine to post)

Those of you who were deleted from this hike-you may sign up again IF you follow our policy.
    PLEASE, follow the intructions. Thanks.
Syl, the road to TH 2 wkends ago was fairly clear but not sure how conditions are now. The trail last time was crusty snow so we hiked the whole trail and carried our snowshoes. Conditions change almost daily so we try to be prepared for whatever they may be.

Sorry, too much to remember. Read the guidelines on the message board-tells ALL that you need for participation in this group and all that is expected of you. THEN, say you have read and will abide by those guidelines. You just post it right here. AGAIN, for those who have not done this, you will be deleted from this outing.

New showshoes, first time I could use them, but I can't get to South Hill Park & Ride by public transit by that time on any weekend day. I live near downtown Tacoma, can someone contact me about carpooling.
