Take a break from the rat race and escape the City to Angel Island. Let's spend Presidents' Day chilling on the ferry, picnicking at the park and hiking with a beautiful 360 degree view of the Bay Area. Come on...you know you want to :) Consider it a reward for all your stresses and a job well done!
In case you haven't heard....Angel Island is one of the finest historical sites in the Bay Area that includes military garrisons and compounds from every major war dating back to the U.S. Civil War. Also known as the “Ellis Island of the West,” Angel Island’s Immigration Station was the first stop for millions of Pacific Basin, Asian and Russian immigrants entering the United States. So our day would be a good mix of history, adventure, food and relaxation. Be a local tourist for a change!
Here are the logistics:
1. Meet us Pier 41, where the Blue and Gold fleet ferries are stationed
2. Roundtrip ferry ride is $17, and sadly they don't take Clipper cards. You can buy tickets in advance though: http://www.blueandgoldfleet.com/sightseeing-tours/water-sightseeing-schedules/#1079
3. There is a cafe on the island, but choices are limited so feel free to bring other snacks if you wish.
4. There's a history tour tram that tours the island every 30 minutes or so. It's normally $15/person but there's a groupon 2 for 1 deal: http://www.groupon.com/deals/angel-island-company-13 so we can probably share that too.
I probably missed some other detail, so please post up with questions. Looking forward to it!
