Distance: 9.7 miles
Elevation gain: 2,200 feet
Expected Pace: Quick - 3.0 MPH.
Difficulty: Difficult due to length and steepness of terrain.
We will start at Multnomah Falls Lodge, hike the 1/2 mile trail to connect with the Wahkeena Falls trailhead ascend 1.2 miles up a series of switchbacks while passing Wahkeena and Fairie Falls. We will then continue on the ridge trail and connect with Multnomah Creek. The trail passes Lower, Middle and Upper Dutchman Falls, followed by a unique trip through a creek washed overhang called Dutchman Tunnel. Just beyond the tunnel, you'll come to Weisendanger Falls. The trail switches up above Weisendanger and keeps rising to clear Ecola Falls. The trail follows Multnomah Creek a short distance up the hillside. We'll be taking the "High Water Trail" up to Waespe Point, a beautiful lunch spot overlooking the gorge. After pictures and lunch we will descend to Multnomah Falls and back to our cars.
I strongly advise you to only sign up for hikes that meet your level of experience and health condition.
Permits or Parking Fees: None
We combine enjoyment of the trail with respect for everyone’s time. We will hike at a steady pace and just keep going! If you are near the lead you will end up waiting at trail junctions. If you are in the back you will be asked to do your best to keep up with the group and at waiting points the group may move on as soon as you are within sight. Our pace averages about 3.0 MPH including breaks. We do get separated from time to time as everyone walks their own pace but please bear in mind that you will need to be able to stay within a reasonable distance from the group. Make sure this is something you are prepared for and would enjoy.
No dogs please.
For a hike of this length, footwear and sturdy pack (with ample water) are important - make sure you wear comfortable hiking boots with good rugged soles that are well broken in.
Pack a lunch for the view at the top and bring your camera!
