Kaltenberger Ritterturnier (Medieval tournament in Kaltenberg)

Hi, I have updated the date to 28th Juli (daytime tournament, area open from 11am to 10pm). Could you please change your RSVP? If it's less than four of us going, I am thinking of cancelling the event... Thx Dom

The world's largest medieval tournament takes place in Kaltenberg every year in July. It is located on the grounds of the Royal Family of Bavaria, which at the same time is the location of the "Koenig Ludwig" brewery. From my experience it is best to go on a day where the tournament is in the evening. The castle grounds open during the day, there is plenty of time to enjoy medieval food, watch artists, drink Met and have a great time. Days with evening shows are:

Kaltenberger Ritterturnier Abendveranstaltung
Sa 13., Fr 19. und Fr 26.Juli 2013

You will have to share a ride with someone from Munich as there is no public transportation.

Hi Kirsten, well there are so many pictures and videos. We can either one day meet up after work, or I bring my lap top a monday meetup but you there are so many files, you can't really view all of them... however you want...

I would soo love to go but I'll have to agree with Dominikus here that it will unfortunately just be too hot for me to be able to relax and enjoy. Bummer! It's a shame they're not able to spontaneously create some kind of "medieval swimming pool"/"underwater jousting competition" kind if thing to cool off in! ;)

Hey guys, being out there in the sun and in 35+ degrees seems to be a little on the hard side for me. There is no shade during the tournament either! So, sorry, but I prefer a shaded place at the beach somewhere ... Have fun if you are going, and take care with the heat!

Hey guys good to see that you want to come. I am coming from Garmisch-Partenkirchen (by car). As Daniel said there is a train (S4) and shuttle bus from Munich. The area opens at 11am, the big parade is at 1pm, and the tournament starts at 3.30pm. See here: http://www.ritterturnier.de/en/...

I would suggest that people going from Munich sort out meeting and transportation by themselves. I have to admit that I might not be able to attend, but I hope to, and in that case I will be there between 11am and 12pm. My cell is[masked], and I would suggest to text each other and to sort out meeting there, somewhere around the arena where it is less crowded before the tournament.

I forgot to mention that the tickets can be bought there at the box office, they open one hour before admission (i.e., they open at 10am).

Take the S4 to Geltendorf and there is a shuttle bus (1.70Eur).

Hi, just wanted to share that last year we were able to go with S4 to Geltendorf and there was a shuttle bus waiting at the station. So it was doable by public transit.

Hi Aurea, yes that's right it is not for free ... but in my opinion worth it! Currently the 28th is leading ...

Hi, I voted for 28th without being sure that I can attend. Then I realized that we'd have to buy tickets, an they don't seem to be very cheap. At least 30 euros to see the tournament, or am I missing something?

We have an overwhelming number of two doodle entries thus far ;-) and they vote for Sunday 28 (daytime tournament). I'll wait for another two days to give you guys a chance to have your say at the doodle page as well...

That sounds like a good opportunity to make a doodle out of it.... Personally speaking, the 19th would work for me, and for next week I don't know yet

Hi guys, what about the weekend 12/13/14? Different options: 12th (evening show) is the "Gauklernacht" (medieval entertainers), 13th (evening show) is the jousting tournament, and 14th (daytime show) is jousting tournament again. I prefer the tournament and I do prefer the evening shows, but I haven't seen the "Gauklernacht" yet so I could be convinced. What do you think?
