Hi everybody,

Here we go again to a nice day on the mountains riding ski/snowboard. Last time we went together by bus and it was a lot of fun.

I hope you shall join us :-)

So here are the details regarding our trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen:

1 - Train/ski ticket

The ticket can be bought on the ticket vending machine (the red ones) at the Munich main train staiton. It costs €42,00 (Train + Ski ticket).

We take the train on Munich main train staiton (München Hbf) at 06:30 AM at the platform 27 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (about 90 minutes trip). When we arrive there we must get our Ski tickets on the station (€2,00 deposit is necessary) and get in on a second train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen Hausberg (About 3 minutes trip).

More infos:
http://www.zugspitze.de/en/winter/skigebiet/garmisch-classic/garmischer-skiexpress.htm

I ask you on March 1st evening to take a look again on this page because sometimes the Deutsche Bahn changes the platform, so i will update it here and in this way nobody will get lost on the train station.

2 - Ski/Snowboard Rental/Course

I ask you please to reserve online the equipment and to book the courses as soon as possible.

Ski/Snowboard equipment rental:
http://www.skischule-gap.de/en/skiverleih.html

The prices range between € 15 and € 25, depending on what you rent.

Ski/Snowboard course booking:
https://gap.skischoolshop.com/en/

Ski group course:  €45,00 - Time: 09:30 - 12:30 (Meeting point at the course at 9:00)
Snowboard group course:  €45,00 - Time: 09:30 - 12:30 (Meeting point at the course at 9:00)

3 - Return:

The ski area closes at 16:30 and the train departs from Garmisch-Partenkirchen Hausberg every hour (16:45, 17:45 and so on..). If we finish at 16:30, i would suggest we take the train at 17:45, so have enough time to give the equipment back and with some luck and we could do a fast aprés ski. :-)

Otherwise we could take an earlier train. Let's see how it works on site.

If you have any question or doubt, please do not hesitate to ask.

At the moment, based on your feedback, i think the best option is garmisch-partenkirschen.
Why ? Direct train connection (90 minutes), direct equipment rent and ski/snowboard course and the price is reasonable (€ 42,00 = train round-trip + Skiticket). The drawback is that the ski area has few blue slopes.

If somebody knows a ski area with direct train/bus connection and equipment rent nearby the ski area send a message. I am searching other options, and if a find something i will post here.

Hi Rafael, Here you can find all the info about 5 places close to Munich for skiing: http://www.alpenplus.... You can reach them with the BOB and there is a combi ticket (train + skipass) for 43 EUR. I went a few times to Brauneck (http://www.alpenplus....). It takes a little less than 1hr to get to Lenggries. A shuttle bus takes you from the Lenggries train station to the ski area. It actually only take 15 min by foot, in case you miss the bus. Rental and ski courses are available, as well as a few pubs/restaurants to have a bite/drink afterwards. It is also possible to go for X-country skiing. Might be a good option for another weekend.

I was told that there is a world cup event in Garmisch this weekend. Is that going to be a problem for this event?

Ah ok, if it's just one slope should be fine then.

      February 28, 2013

    • Rafael P.

They will block the Kandahar slope, which ends at the Kreuzeck lift. the other slopes will be free. ;-)

  • Florian

sounds great. suggestions: Lenggries or Spitzingsee are easily reached from Munich. I might be able to drive and take 2-3 people with me (Vaterstetten but could come into Munich East as well to pick up)

    February 13, 2013

    • Florian

bus goes to Brauneck Bergbahn, I have never taken it but expect it to be accurate. I am not sure whether you can rent equipment right there at the lift. My suggestion for those that need to rent would be, to rent in the city the day before and take equipment with them, that way it's probably cheaper than right on the slopes and you won't loose time in the morning queuing etc. (remember everybody will have their equipment adjusted to their body size and height which takes time).

      Hi FLorian,

Thank you for your feedback. I think it is not possible to go on the day before, becauseit is friday. I have never been there before. I thought you were there before, at leastby train an bus. As we have a reasonably big group, i think it is better to go to
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, because i already know the ski area and where one can rent equipment and
ski/snowboard classes. So if something goes wrong i can solve it easier and faster. What a pity you can join us. I hope you next time can make it :)

    Hi Rafael,
Thank you for everything. I am an experienced skier. I think my level is intermediate. I need to rent equipment (ski & ski boots) on the spot.
Again, thank you very much !
    Miho:)

    Hi everybody,Hi everybody,

I would like to ask you, your experience level(ski/snowboard) and if you need to rent the equipment to ride on march 2nd, so we can find a ski area that can match our needs.

    Thank you.

Hi Rafael, I am a fairly good skier - can do anything from blue to black, and will need to rent my skis and shoes at the station. Cheers, Jerome
