Paddle the Musky

  • May 10, 2014 · 9:00 AM

Come and join us for a fun and educational day on the Musconetcong River, one of New Jersey's premier paddling streams. Don't miss this opportunity to spend an exciting day on the river with former MWA Executive Director, naturalist and river guide John Brunner.

Trip location to be determined as the date approaches (trip date and location subject to change due to water level or other conditions). Pre-registration is required. Participants must supply their own boat and wear a life jacket, be dressed appropriately for the weather and come prepared with drinking water, a waterproofed lunch or snack. Liability release must be signed.

MWA members are asked to donate $10, non-members $15. Space is limited, so register today! Call[masked] or email [masked] to save a spot. Contact naturalist and river guide John Brunner with questions about your readiness, or specifics on the route at [masked].

Glad you all could attend! It was a solid group of paddlers. We zoomed along at breakneck speed on a full river and hardly had to move a paddle. No sunburn, warm temps. Great day!

Fantastic. The folks responsible for this event are very knowledgable about and seasoned to the river. I trusted their good common sense navigating any obstacle. I had a great time and enjoyed how rich that area of the river is with it's beauty and wildlife. I would go again.

It wasn't a great idea, was it. Looking forward to paddling on the 10th. :)

I just checked with USGS stats & today 5/04, it is at 220 cfs & 3.41 ft (these figures are at Lk Hopatcong outlet. This means it would have some whitewater & I don't know paddling experience of those wishing to paddle. There could also be some portages.

We have a trip on 10th. Let's see what the level is next week. But we're not paddling upper.

I would so love to paddle the upper Musky. Granted, there are trouble spots, but if John (much more experienced than I) would be able to scout it with me, it could really be a great paddle. What do you think John?

This sounds terrific, but these 9am start times are killin' me. Late night worker... ugh.

Early May is such a great time to paddle the river - wildflower, warblers, orioles, all the water birds and hopefully it will be WARM. FYI: the river trip will be at least 3 hours so we may not get off the river until 12:30 or 1PM depending on flow and weather.
