Let's eat and discuss our experiences-
After the historic tour of the Apollo, I obtained a number of recommendations on a few places that we could go for lunch. Harlem has a number of traditional soul food resturants. The following were recommended by the Apollo when I called today:

Sylvia's -http://sylviasrestaurant.com/
Amy Ruths- http://www.amyruthsharlem.com/
Manna's Resturant- website under construction.

I think this will be a great event and should be a blast! Check out the website for more historical information on the Apollo: http://www.apollotheater.org/about/history

Really enjoyed today's tour and lunch (have enough left overs for dinner too :-) )

I would really like a museum that either has docent tours or audio guides. Feel that if there isn't a "tour" or "itinerary" then the group members would wander off and be all over the place.

I'd love to see the Frick collection -- or how about something in NJ:
    Newark Museum
    Montclair Art Museum.

I think I am going to plan two between now and New Years. One in NJ and one in NY! Thanks and will look into both of your suggestions!

Great meetup today! Bring on the suggestions for the next meetup. So far:
    Transit Museum
Tour of the New York Public Library
    Museum of the Moving Image
    Discovery Museum in Times Square.

What's the price of the tour? Having difficulty getting that info online.

18.00 per person if we have a group less than 20 which I think might be the case.

  • Tracey

Hi John. My guest had to back out so just count only me for the lunch.

    Hi everyone,

Hope to see you all on Saturday! Please note that the tour starts promptly at 11 am. The Apollo recommends that everyone arrive at least 15-20 minutes early so that you can use the bathroom, get situated and purchase your tickets. The resturant called me today and told me to just call ahead about an hour before with an exact head count so that they can plan seating. It seems they do not do official reservations unless we have a fixed menu. The owner did not think that seating for our group would be an issue so long as I call ahead that morning. Again as always please change your RSVP to NO if you do not plan on attending. See you Saturday!

    Thank you,

    John

    Hi everyone,

Amy Ruth's makes reservations for 20 or more people. I asked them to reserve a table for 20 on Saturday for 1 p.m. However, if we have less than 20 attending for lunch they will not hold the table for us and simply ask that we call ahead that morning to give a better idea of the total number who are coming. This part is tricky with meetups because you never actually know how many people are going to show up. If you decide that you are not attending Saturday and have RSVPed Yes please be considerate and change it to a NO. Some of you said that you are attending lunch and are bringing a guest. Please confirm if your guest is also attending lunch. The tour is expected to last 60-90 minutes and the resturant is about seven blocks walking so I think a 1:00 reservation should work well. Also, a reminder, I will be collecting an additional dollar from everyone at the Apollo. This dollar is used to keep the meetup page active. Should be fun and see you Saturday,

    John

Any more people for lunch? Trying to get a semi accurate count for the reservations. Any preferences or suggestions of places to eat? I know I mentioned a few but they may be too crowded/pricy for that time of day.

Are we going to lunch as a group? Are reservations needed. I think you will need to get an idea of who is coming so a reservation can be made.
