Montclair Art Museum - Highlights tour and Art Studio Lesson

Updated Details:

Now that the event is two days away a few details that I want to remind everyone of.
1. When we arrive at the museum, we will meet our docent and art teacher at the museum side-entrance (right in front of the parking lot). The tour will start promptly at 12:30 P.M followed by a one hour studio art class. PLEASE PLAN ON ARRIVE 15 minutes early so that you can check in with me.

2. Payment: The museum would prefer if I made one group payment. Please give me $15.00 when you arrive on Saturday  which will include the meetup fee and I will make one payment for the group. If arrive before I do please do not pay without me. This will make our large group payment confusing. Please bring $15.00 in cash and do not plan to pay with your credit card.

3. If you need to reach me please send an email, or call, text to[masked]-6466. If you arrive late the tour will start before you.

4. Please change your RSVP STATUS TO NO if you do not plan on attending. You will be marked as a NO SHOW if you do not change your status.

Thanks,

John

General Details:

I scheduled a private highlights tour and a one hour art lesson at the Montclair Art Museum in Montclair, New Jersey. The event will take place from 12:30-2:30 p.m on Saturday, March 29th, 2014. The event will start with a ONE hour highlights tour followed by a ONE hour art lesson in the studio with a museum art teacher. Not much of an artist myself but I thought this would be a fun add on for the group experience. Cost: The cost of the event is $15.00 per person. (Please note that this cost includes the full two hours - tour, art lesson, group deposit and meet up fee). I will not be collecting an additional dollar for meet up costs for this meet up as I am including that in the total amount due. If some people from Manhattan decide to attend this event please see the directions below on how to get to the Museum from NJ Transit. If you tell me ahead of time that you are arriving my train, as long as your train gets 20 minutes before the expected start time of the tour, I can try to make arrangements with you to pick you up at the train station so that you will not have to take the bus from the train station to the museum. Other members may be willing to help also. But please make your plans known ahead of time. Please see the directions to the museum below:

By Car Free public parking is available in the Museum's ample parking lot. Get Directions By Train from Manhattan From 34th Street Penn Station, take New Jersey Transit’s Midtown Direct train on the Montclair-Boonton line to Bay Street in Montclair (Please note that the station name is "Bay Street," not "Montclair"). Train Schedule When you arrive at Bay Street, the platforms will be connected by a crossover bridge with elevators. Take the elevator or stairs up to use crossover platform and then exit the station. Walk one block south on Pine Street, then take a right onto Bloomfield Ave. The Museum is located approximately one mile from the Bay Street Station at Bloomfield and South Mountain Avenues. You can walk or take NJ Transit bus #11 or #29 up Bloomfield Avenue (NJ Transit Schedule). If you take the bus from the station, be prepared with exact change. By Bus from Manhattan From Port Authority Bus Terminal, take DeCamp Bus #33 to the corner of South Mountain and Bloomfield Avenues, Montclair. The MAM stop is between the "MONTCLAIR: Gates & Bloomfield" and "VERONA: Lakeside Ave" stops listed on DeCamp's schedule. Check the DeCamp Bus Schedule or call[masked] for more information. By Bus from Newark From Newark Penn Station, take New Jersey Transit #11 to the corner of South Mountain and Bloomfield Avenues, Montclair. You can also take the NJ Transit bus #29 along Bloomfield Avenue to the museum. Several other NJ Transit buses serve the Montclair area. Check the NJT Bus Schedule or call[masked] for more information

After the tour:
Montclair is a great town with a lot of resturants and bars. After our two hours at the museum if anyone is up for a meal and or drinks, I can look into one of the many local establishments in the area to make a reservation. I will get a count of who might be planning to attend the social outing as the date draws near. As always if you have any questions please feel free to email me or call me at [masked] or[masked]-6466.

Thanks,

John

Glad you enjoyed my words. Only write from the heart. The poet in me won't allow anything else. Hopefully we will meet again soon.

What a great way to spend a rainy afternoon. The art was exquisite, the docent full of interesting facts, the class was fun, the lunch at Egan's was delicious and the group were great. Thanks John for organizing such a wonderful trip.

What a wonderful way to spend an otherwise wet and weary day. I enjoyed in immensely. And now much to my delight, I have learned another art form. Sorry I couldn't join in with lunch but going out to dinner tomorrow and too much...! Hopefully I will meet up again with all you guys soon. Thanks. Rita (the butterfly lady.)

I was wondering the same thing as William - should we send you the payment through Venmo, or give it to you when we meet? Thanks!

    March 22, 2014

    • John C.

      When you arrive see above.

I will confirm with the museum this week and I will send out an email which will contain all the meeting information. Also you will purchase your individual tickets which are 12.00 each for the tour. However, be sure to let them know if you arrive early that you are apart of the meetup group which is the tour and art lesson. I will collect three additional dollars from each member (this is the meetup fee which is more than usual because I had to place a deposit down to arrange for a private tour.

I suggest that we meet on the side entrance adjacent to the parking lot. That is the door for the education programs. Once inside to your right you will see the gift shop. That is probably the only place a group of our size can meet.

Hi again. I'm new to meet ups so my question is do we pay for everything when we get there or do we mail in a check to you advance. Also, where do we meet and how do we recognize one another.

Can't wait to see what this brings out in me and the others attending. Let's do a nice inexpensive dinner afterwards? See you later.

Approximately, how long a car drive from Manhattan?

    March 2, 2014

    • John C.

Wendy is it really that far? I think it is only 13 miles outside the city.

      March 3, 2014

    • Wendy

Yeah, if she takes rte. 3 west and if there is any traffic, it could take 45 minutes to an hour.

Thanks. I will be attending although I have limited art talent at best. Maybe the instructor will bring out the best. :)

I worked at the Montclair Art Museum, first as its fundraiser -- corporate and foundation grants and later as it curator of education. Both were many years ago. It will be fun to hear a docent-led tour of their main exhibition.

Love this meetup. I actually take art classes at the Yard School at the Montclair Art Museum -- took pottery this past fall and will be taking watercolor this coming spring.

    March 2, 2014

    • John C.

Great! I thought adding the one hour art class to the tour would be a good idea.
