I've posted the two photos that came out reasonably well. If anybody's not happy with any of them, please let me know and I'll take them down. There is also now a discussion forum for the piano event which Mal was kind enough to put up for us. So if there are any suggestions or comments on the piano event or any topics people would like to discuss this is the place. Go to:

Do you guys perform from memory or sight read music from books?

Yes, the problem is not how the difficulties of the pieces, it'll depend on the approach how the learners learn and whether they can absorb what they learn into part of their repertoires in their mind (or soul) then become a actually performance. Good performance should never need music(script) to help because all the music should have learned in their mind deeply before perform it in public. Recently, I am revising on some repertories which are on the beginners level as most of my students are beginners ( I have not had advanced students for nearly five years and I'm glad that I have a new grade seven student who she passed her grade 6 with distinction but she

What happened to the rest of this post? I am an intermediate player. It may interest you to know that I feel for what I play. I would prefer to play one piece very well than try two or three pieces and not do them well. That doesn't mean to say that people cannot play more than one piece well but for me my playing is not advanced enough to do that. I want to play with correct phrasing and dynamics and really get into the one piece. This is why I go to concerts, listen to interviews with top pianists. It is all a learning process.

David you may enjoy watching this clip. I heard this played live at the Festival Hall by Helene and it was electrifying. There is something about live music that no youube clip can reproduce.

Something seems to have happened to the order of the comments. Just to be clear, all three belong together, part three is in the middle.

Many thanks to those who came to yesterday's event. As on previous occasions, there was a wide range of music and some excellent performances. For the first time we were joined by a singer/pianist, Hiran, who sang a couple of classic numbers and accompanied himself on the piano. The music played is listed on the next comment above.

Is there a microphone for singer/pianists? (For people who sing at the same time as accompanying themselves?)

    July 22, 2014

    • Mike

There isn't a microphone. But the room is small enough that a microphone isn't really necessary. The audience is also small, about 8 people.

Be nice to hear you play and sing...

I have a suggestion. Rather than just a drink after, could it run to food?

    July 6, 2014

    • Mike

Sure, let's see what others want to do on the day.
