Last summer festival in Mears Park. Rock, dance, jazz, classical, opera, blues, hip hop, broadway, gospel, eclectic?come for your favorite pick or plan the whole weekend seeing performances you wouldn?t normally see! Website has complete schedule with performance times.

I caught just about all of the bands last year and was amazed this festival was free! I?ll be there for most/all once again, and as it?s a fest, either call beforehand or shoot me a text while there and we all can meet up: [masked]-2051.

Since the object of this group is to get music people together, if you?re interested in knowing when other members will be attending over the weekend, let me know this as well as when you?ll be attending either when you RSVP or thru me and I?ll coordinate so people can meet up.

Again, I?ll be checking out all or most of the fest (especially Freddy Fresh and Idle Hands) though my personal ?not-to-be-missed list? is:

Friday night:

6pm Dan Newton on acoustic stage playing offbeat accordion
6:30pm Minnesota Opera was one of my favorites last year ? I was absolutely riveted and didn?t want it to end after a showcase of various operas with various singers, something you sure don?t get to see every day!
7:30pm Papa John Kolstad with Clint Hover (love the blues)
8:30pm Freddy Fresh (guest Mark Wheat from The Current) ? The closest thing we?ll have to the euro dance fests. If you like Fatboy Slim, Massive Attack, Propellerheads, Orbital, Chemical Brothers, etc., you?ll dig Freddy Fresh.

1pm Idle Hands ? I LOVE THIS BAND! I only wish they were closing the show rather than at 1pm! Indie rock, modern in the new 80s revival sound. If you like brit rock, like Pulp, New Order, Psychedelic Furs, you?re sure to love Idle Hands. It?s worth checking out their tunes even if you can?t make it to this fest so please click, listen & enjoy:
4pm Moore by Four ? Vocal ensemble in the vein of Manhattan Transfer
5:30pm Desdamona, award-winning poet/rapper. I?m really loving the trax on myspace so looking forward to seeing live.
6:30pm Spider John Koerner (again, love the blues)
8:30pm Romantica, have seen before and really enjoyed Americana sound and live performance.

5pm The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra ? I also absolutely loved the Chamber Orchestra last year and look forward to another performance.
6:30pm Heiruspecs ? I normally enjoy hip hop/rap music recorded vs. live but Heiruspecs is a definite exception I discovered when I really loved their set at the Red Stag block party recently while they made my top local artists list.
