The Famous Hot Doug's

Hot Doug's is a Chicago landmark that is closing it's doors for good in October. It is famous for its gourmet hot dogs such as the foie gras dog. This is a place everyone I know has been gushing about for years and it's about time I tried it out.

From what I've been told the line is really really long sooooo this will probably only appeal to dedicated foodies. However, the 1-3 hour wait is totally worth it from what I've read and been told. Everyone i know tells me the best way to tackle this feat is to hang out with some fun people and have a few drinks. The plan is simple. We meet at Hot Doug's at 11:30 sharp! We hop in line with our backpacks full of tasty beverages (alcoholic I hope) and wait for our moment of glory while chatting and drinking together. Stragglers will have to go to the back of the line if one forms behind us so please be on time. When we finally order we can each eat our own dog or split them up so we can all try a little of each kind.

Drinking out in the open is frowned upon by police and may result in a ticket so please bring some kind of discreet container such as a thermos, camelbak, soda bottle, or even a solo cup.

I went on a Wednesday at 11:30 and it took 3 hours before we ordered. I highly recommend getting in line earlier so you can eat close to noon!

I was there with a friend last saturday. If you go there at 11.30 you can expect to wait 5-6 hours. We didnt join the line. Someone in the middle of the line told us he joined at 10:30 and it was 1pm when we arrived. Furhter more I suggest chairs and sun or raining protection ;)
