Musical Bridges Around the World presents the second concert of their thirteenth season, ?Arabian Nights?, December 12, 2010, 3:00 PM, at McAllister Auditorium, on the campus of San Antonio College.
Cellist Wendy Warner of Chicago and Russian pianist Irina Nuzova of the duo WarnerNuzova, as well as Lebanese percussionist Yousif Sheronick and violist Kathryn Lockwood from Australia of duoJalal, and violinist Mark Cheikhet of Russia, create a series of musical conversations which speak of how people of all religions and backgrounds can live together in peace and harmony.
Sounds of the Middle Eastern darbuka (goblet drum) and riq (tambourine), blend with the West African djembe, numerous frame drums from around the globe and violin, cello, and viola, to create a remarkable fusion of melody and rhythm.
A highlight of the evening is the World Premiere of "Strange Frenzy: The Dance of the Seven Veils" by San Antonio composer Jack Stamps, for which the modern dancer Julie Nathanielsz joins the group.
Tickets are $25, with discounts for seniors, children, students and military with ID. Children 12 and under are always free.
?Meet the Artists? chocolate fountain reception will follow the concert.
